Post subject: | Basic wiring diagram ?'s |
I've searched on here and the internet. Still have questions regarding a very basic wiring setup for my little boat. I know it's not that difficult to do, just that I've never done it before. Is the following diagram correct? Is the term BUS terminal/bar correct? Is it called something else on the positive side, or is it a different device entirely? Thanks. |

That'll work, don't ground your negative to the boat though |

Add a fuse here and there. Other than that, looks fine to me. If running the same size wire to your devices as you are running to the "bus bar", just one fuse adequate to protect the wire within a foot or so of the battery is fine. If you are running smaller wire to the devices, I'd recommend another fuse adequate for that size wire within a few inches of the bus bar on each line in addition to the one near the battery. |

Thanks, guys. Thinking about a fuse/breaker on the main pos line from the bat. Yea, I read a few threads about grounding and not to ground to boat. This system won't be connected to motor either. Where should I mount the neg bus? Can I use the same type of bus on the pos side? |

You can use something similar to this on the positive and negative. It doesn't care what you are passing through it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Screw-D ... 2c65c67b83 |

All my wiring is run out of my drivers box. Battery charger is mounted in there too. I have one positive and negative lead running into the box and hooked up to bus bars, then positives run through a fused switch panel and to the devices, negatives run straight out of the bus to the devices. |

i wouldn't run a trolling motor off a terminal strip. get a breaker of recommended size for the motor and run it straight off the battery. i would recommend a separate batt for the trolling motor if possible |

I didn't look at your devices, just the wiring. Swampslut is right, doesn't make much sense to run the TM through a bus bar. You can run it that way if you want, but you need to run adequate size wire to and from the bus bar. Does the TM stay in the boat? I'll be using anderson connectors on mine, but it will only be on the boat when the platform is on. All the wiring for the generator, lights, and TM will go on and off with the platform. If all those devices are in the front of the boat, you could run a heavy (like 6 or even 4) gauge wire from the rear all the way to the front into two bus bars, and then split everything from there. Was that your plan? |
