 17/54 Gatortail Extreme that slides.
Upon ordering this boat I was told the extreme series did not slide and that the 3/16th bottom would not have any ill effects. Upon picking up my boat I was told there was a design change on the extreme series. Well I questioned the new design upon seeing it and my assumptions were correct in that I knew it was not gonna stick in the high speed turns in deep water. I was turning into the mouth of one river from another and had to shut the throttle down in order to not slide sideways into the river bank and flip. It was me and another person in the boat which is hard to believe with that much weight. Not sure how this is going to pan out as I come from running round chine gatortrax's that I could never make slide in deep water. Kind of disappointed after putting all the work and money into this rig and having this problem. Anyways here is some pictures of the boat and would like to thank duckhunterf250 at Deadfowl Custom Boats and Camo for helping me rig and camo the boat.

Is this the same boat RJ asked me about? I can "make" mine slide, but if driven right, it carves pretty good.

Nice looking rig! Not a big fan of a boat that slides, though. I want mine to bank when I yank on the tiller.

turn, throttle down then gun it...
as far as I know, they all will slide.
That's what makes them fun.

Mine will only slide if I am running wide open and yank the tiller handle, but it still isn't terrible. 17x54 xtreme

Re: 17/54 Gatortail Extreme that slides.
All that barking about learning to drive is not going to cut it. The extreme series is advertised as a boat that runs like a round chine. I called and was told the same thing. Well that's not the case, yeah I can turn and let off the throttle and probably move around in the boat and get it to stick. That's not what I'm looking for in a boat, I ran round chines and it does not matter what you do or who's driving when you turn the boat turns regardless of all that other BS. I'm putting it out there that the extreme hull that I got slides, that's all there is to it. I'm not in sales and I'm not gonna sugar coat. Wish I would have been able to run one prior to buying. Not sure if this new design change has anything to do with it or not. Sliding is not fun to me in the dark with stumps. Other than that and my deck being built wrong I think it is a good boat and might have to keep it. Thanks med I moved back closer to home so will get a ride planned soon.

Re: 17/54 Gatortail Extreme that slides.
You are right shafer. I sure should have cause cheerleaders hype up stuff to make themselves feel better about what they own. I don't have a problem giving someone a honest answer about what I own. Hell are you interested in a boat? Sold my rig for a more open hull with a hybrid front end, I also wanted a motor with reverse. I asked for the hatch to be further back and the seat base to be on the extended deck. Not that big of a deal just lost a lot of dry storage and have to pull gas tanks out to fill up now since they are so far under the deck.

Re: 17/54 Gatortail Extreme that slides.
Not to be a smart ass, but nothing is gonna turn just like a round chine, but the Extreme hull is pretty close. You really should've test drove one prior to buying it if you're that hard core about it.

Re: 17/54 Gatortail Extreme that slides.
Hey Team Camo, if I was promoting a brand and was given a free boat to use I might just hype it up too. I'm sure you will make lots of sales. I'm not hardcore just don't appreciate being lied to, quit getting your feelings hurt over this kind of stuff. Don't worry man I will own another round chine or maybe even a triple taper. As far as test driving one, that just was not possible at the time and I took the companies word for it and did a one stop shop.

Re: 17/54 Gatortail Extreme that slides.
I paid for it cause I still had not drove it and was not too worried about the deck. I questioned the design upon picking it up and was assured again. Actually Delta I like the motor and everything about the rig, just not a fan of the boat sliding. Hell, your the biggest Gator-tail fan of them all. What ya say about adding another rig to your stable?

Re: 17/54 Gatortail Extreme that slides
Rzr... It sucks that your disappointed with your rig. I really do feel for you bro.
As far as me wanting the rig, I appreciate the offer, but I'm waiting on my new PD rig to be finished.
Keep it a little while. Don't make a decision right now. Put 40 hours on it and see how you feel. Someone is always looking for another rig and you shouldn't have any problem selling it. If you keep it a while and still don't like it, then get rid of it.
If it were mine, Ide drive it to Terry's house and shove the whole got dayum thing up his ass... Then watch him call Hoyt and tell him how good it felt.

I may keep it around still not decided yet. Delta is your newest rig the new tapered extreme, or does the channel run all the way to the front of the boat?

I have a triple taper and mine cuts like a knife, but don't get me wrong i can make it slide. Put more hours on it and learn how to really manuver that CC rig and you'll learn to love it.

Re: 17/54 Gatortail Extreme that slides.
Na I had a 17/44. The boat was built to my request and I had to wait 11 weeks to get it. They just messed up where the hatch was supposed to be placed on the deck. I know now that nothing turns like a round, and even knew it then. I was just eager to try something new and heard the right words from the sales man and pulled the trigger.

So what did they change about the design? The original stepped hull turns very well. What has changed.

The middle of my hull the channel is maybe 1/8" and at the transom it is about 11/2".
