I'm getting a boat made very soon and putting a 35 gator tail on it just wondering what size do yall fine works best for going through tuff stuff and which would be faster?? I plan to hunt and fish out of this boat! thanks |

I have wondered the same thing and from reading through posts 1848 would be the way to go for carrying loads and if you have to go across rough water. Without a load 1748 is faster but 1848 carries a load much better. I suppose if I was a hardcore timber guy and it was tight timber the 1' might make a difference but otherwise I would go 1848. I am hoping to order a 1848 in the next couple of weeks from mudd |

yeah thats what i think im going to go with the 18x48. We going put our orders in with a local guy who builds them friday i cant wait! thanks to all the replys |

Had a 1748 PD boat and now an 1848 skiff. They 1848 seems to carry a load better than the 17'. Its only a foot, but one can easily tell a difference in the load carrying capabilites. The 1748 may be slighlty faster totally unloaded, but put a couple guys in the boat and the 1848 will probably perform better. Either are great sizes, but the 1848 seems to be the best all around. |

I have an 18x48. I personally wouldnt go shorter. Would definitely go wider, esp. for fishing. |

yeah i thought about going 54 inches wide but my uncle has one and its a bit wide to get into tight duck blinds so i think ill just go with the 18x48 thanks for the info! |

I vote for the 1748. I like the way it handles in tight areas. It works for me. I don't carry too big a load when we hunt so I don't need the extra foot. Either one is a great hull. |

I love my 1848. That extra foot really seems to make a difference in crossing big water... There are times I wish I had a 54" wide for fishing, hauling more gear. |
