 Boat design question
I would like to hear from those that have experience with surface drive motors on different hull designs. particularly the pros n cons of pionted vs flat nose boats. the reason I ask is because I have a 35 gtr on a custom made flat bottom, pointed 18 x 48 with longitudinal stringers. It was made in 1994 to run a longtail. The only rise in the bottom starts about 18" from the front and only rises about 2". My opinion is that the pros are.. no rake to create drag when getting up on plane, and it does a great job at parting the veggies (as long as you're going slow) instead of climbing over them. it will also deflect off of trees and banks better. The cons are.. narrower deck for fishing, but most bay or bass boats are pointed also and that never bothered anyone. (although they are bigger and wider too) Last weekend I had over 800lbs of meat in the boat and it planned out just fine. I even went marsh jumping with that load in it. now I was impressed with that BUT, I don't have much experience with other surface drive boats either. The reason I ask is because my son wants a boat, and like a few others here, I'm having thoughts of making one. So, what's your opinion on the two? does it have cons that I haven't found yet?

Here's a pic .mudboat 017.JPG and one after I removed 5" in height from the bow to make the deck usable.

 Re: Boat design question
That's a skiff, not your typical mud hull flat bottom with a pointed nose. Kind of a different animal.
