Long and skinny(1840) VS Short and wide(1548) - I know its probably been beat to death on here already, but i could not find anything when i used the search link. But i was wondering what yalls thoughts were. I was entertaining the idea of having a boat built and wanted to know what the best sizes were for the best results for a 23 SD.

17x42-1840 times 1000

Especially if you are running thick grass, tight trails, or mud.

would you be giving up speed? So it would be a noticable diff. getting up in mud from a 1542? Just wasnt sure it that was too much boat for the 23.

increased surface area is gonna help you with mudmotors. I would def. look at the 17-42. Your performance will be better in all aspects with this size versus a 15 footer.

Get a big boat like 16-18/40-48, if you ever want a big block all you have to do is sell the motor, already got a boat!

I think you would notice more trouble getting up in mud with a short/wider boat Vs. a long and narrow one.

I would def. look into an 18x42.
My plans are to put my 24LT on an 18x42, then when and if I decide to upgrade I would build it up to a tall transom and put a big motor on it.

My 23 did excellent on a 1640 go-devil sd hull. Great speed and handling. Although it wasn't enough boat for the 35 I have now.

Thanks for the input guys, were pretty much on the same page, just wanted to hear some opinions from people that has had experience with these setups. Guess i was really curious on the biggest set up you could go before it being too much for the 23.

When i build my mud boat it will either be a 1842 or 1844. Gator-tails prefered boat is a 18 42 i think. make it lite with minimal things in it and it should scoot!

Read the reviews on our new 1744 Prowler Extreme, we did test is with a 23 surface drive as well - 28 mph one man, 21 mph with four men.

NoWake's Instagator first time out pushed around 28mph. After paint and some gear I think he is around 26mph. He has a carb and exhaust. This is just from what I hear through friends of friends. It is a 1748. Badass boat!!! My Instagator will be started shortly thanks to a new job.

well after seeing Nowake's instagator, and seeing gator-tails 1840 for 23's and their getting speeds like that it really started making me wonder. Cause im only getting 23 in my little rig with one man(230). But I really like Nowake's instagator though its pretty badass!
