I posted a while back getting reviews on spotlights for boats and several people mentioned the go lights. I was wondering if anyone has tried the kind that fit into your bow nav light receptacle? It seems great because you don't have to mount anything, and it can be removed very easily, but it also seems like it would be too heavy for the receptacle and might break it or something. I just need a good spotlight to light up in front of the boat to see whenever we are frogging or bowfishing. The people holding the spotlights in the boat with me never seem to have it pointed where I need it for driving and its a pain to keep asking them to shine ahead. The remote controlled light seems a good option since I can adjust the height and direction of the beam to account for different loads/speeds. |

just buy one of the hardhat lights from GD or MB and be done with it. I thought I wouldnt like one, then I bought a rig that came with one. Now I wont use anything else. |

Yup! Hard hat lights... I run with my driving lights on that just cast a wide beam but when I really want to light up the area I flip a switch on my hard hat and daylight! I run a lot through the ICW so dodging barges and staying between the buoys is made so much easier with these lights! |

get a hardhat light.... and when a forward passenger shines his light anywhere past their 9 or 3 o'clock donkey punch 'em in da back of da head. they'll learn quick. |

I agree that hard hat lights are excellent. I've used them many times. However, they won't work for my application. Wearing a hard hat light while standing behind my center console while two or three people are in the front of the boat just results in alot of reflection and actually makes seeing where I need to go even more difficult. Especially when bow fishing and everyone is standing up on the front deck. I was thinking about mounting some of the waterproof docking lights from academy on the front, but just wanted to ask about golights first since you can control the beam position. |

That or shine it right back in their cornea the next time they turn past 9 or 3, that learns em quick too. I run a hard hat light too. Always have. It seems that I prefer to take certain people that know the system of froggin'. Its kind of like a well oiled machined. Some people don't know da' little things that makes it frustratin' like once you are coming up on a frog done take da' light of. You seem to lose that "mesmorization" if you do. I thought about adding a light bracket up front that would accept my trolling motor receptacle but I just haven't gotten around to it. I felt like it would be helpful, but trying to keep the clutter to a minimum. I done seen the frogman on the front deck have to do all sorts of contortions in the cypress knees to come up with the frog, so I just left well enough alone. |

I got a go-light for my rig and never regretted it. I also did not like the way a light in the back of the boat reflects off of people, etc. Just my preference I guess. I also have doubts about the nav light post holding up a go-light for long. Magnalight.com sells tons of mounting options for go-lights. Some are a little pricey, but I wound up buying a plastic shoe (25$) that it fits in b/c I didn't want to leave it on the boat all the time. Sorry, I would post a link to the product, but can't seem to find it right now. I just push a button on the shoe and slide out the light. I have the shoe mounted on top of a little platform I made out of some 1" square tubing laid on it's side and 1/8" plate. Pretty low profile and still gets it up above the nav light. (Mine is mounted directly behind the nav light) |

Sounds like you pretty much made up your mind to go with the go-light, but if you wanted you could have a welder make you some recess boxes to house some spotlights in the front of your boat. see a lot of that in tunnel drive boats. |

I run the docks lights with my hard hat light I agree there is some reflection especially on open bodies of water... I situate my decoy bags so there is no reflection from my docking lights (forward mounted driving lights) This cuts down on glare.... Hey if you hold a Q Beam your getting just as much glare as with a hard hat light... |

I guess I don't see the downsides of a hardhat light y'all see cuz I drive standin all da time.... I just think dat golight gadget would be too much hassle for me wif da remote & all. I don't play around, when I need light somewhere I need it NOW... dat's why I run a hardhat. If I had to fidget with a remore control I woulda been wrapped around a cypress tree a long time ago. |

I love the remote go lights. I started using them 4 years ago and will never go back to hand held or a hard hat. I do like the hard hat, but when we run open water I need to reach out to see channel markers and shortlines up to 1/2 mile away. The hard hat just had to much flash back from the front of the boat. The remote light on front (I run the removable one that plugs into the bow socket) is great, just pan until you find your marker or shortline and leave it until you need to find your next marker or waypoint. I also use it setting decoys, no wires to contend with. I did manage to break on bow socket pulling into a blind when someone jumped out of the boat and the light hit a 2x4. Did not hurt the light, just the socket, $15.99 and I had a new one installed in about 5 min. As I said, I really like them, have sold probably 75 or more with rigs and have had no compliants.
