Post Re: Poker1
I bought 15 yards, which was enough to wrap the boat ( 18.5 ft ) from the bow back around the stern (including around the motor), and back up to the bow. There is enough left over to overlap on the bow by quite a bit. I could have probably gotten away with 13, but it would have been close.

Thank man! I was thinking around 14-15 yards but wanted to make sure.

Has anyone tried using the fishing seat socket to mount the hardware? Maybe just get a base and attach the bimini hardware to the base?

You can make the fishing seat socket the base for where your scissor braces are by welding up a flat plate on the post and screwing your hardware into it

I just self tapping screwed my Bimini hardware to the plate welded in the deck. They are not really in the way during hunting season and you can take them off when you hang the blind up for the summer.

I have similar set up. But I'm thinking of breaking up the fast grass sides in the middle of the hang with a another longitudinal pipe to make it easier to fold up in the boat. In other words, I instead of having long sheets of the stuff, I would have two shorter pieces overlapping each other around the middle of the hang. Gonna have to figure out a way to terminate the halved panels of fast grass so the edges don't fray. Any suggestions.

I don't have a problem folding it all up into the boat. Since I have the cordura backing the grass, when I fold it down, it folds down inside the boat, then once on the trailer, I just wrap bungee cords around the frame, cordura, and grass, which hold is good enough for highway speeds. if it was just panels of fast grass though, that could be tricky to hold down without destroying them.

Just to add to a classic thread.....
I changed to this backing material from Lowes this year. It's light weight, comes in different colors and is rot and mildew proof. Tie wraps punch through without cutting. It's about $25 per roll. 2 rolls covered my 1860.

Looking good fellas.

I just received my raffia today. Whats the best way to install it? Just zip tie bunches of it together? I'm sure I'll figure out something. I'm not quite ready for it, just collecting thoughts. I want to make sure the zip ties don't show, so I'll need to overlap it some how and still keep it from blowing off.

Shorter lengths of grass look better. They give it more depth rather than look like a wet broom. I don't think you have to worry that much about the zip ties showing. Use the black ones and any shine they have will disappear pretty quick once they are outside

anyone have any pictures on how they started to apply the bundles of grass to the blind? Start down low and work up or visa versa?

Thanks. I have some advantage wetlands cordura I am going to wrap it with, now I just need to decide if I want to punch holes through it for the raffia grass or add a layer of netting.

I got this stuff from Lowe's to put the raffia on. I know it's Orange but 30# of grass should cover it.

I'm leaving it. I don't think paint will stick to the plastic. I have 30# of raffia. That should cover it.

Yah Id say that'll cover it. I was able to get the same stuff in dark green. We used it on our permanent blind last year and it held up great, even in heavy ice.

MSM,

Let's see some pictures when you start zip tying on your raffia. I bought 30lbs of mixed colors from Jstern as well. I think that should be plenty.

I was trying to find some nylon netting to cover over, as I wanted to still be able to see the advantage wetlands camo through it in some spots, but maybe I'm over thinking it. Maybe none of it will show anyway. I found the green plastic snow fence.

I also thought about using the plastic deer fencing. It would think it would work as well.

Yeah, I've done all kinds of searches on netting and I'm trying to save $$ since I have so much money wrapped up into cordura and Raffia.
I can order nylon netting pretty cheap and dye it or buy the black deer netting from Menards. I'm going to check out how strong the deer netting is tonight after work.

2"x2" nylon bird netting. It's lightweight, water resistant and UV blocked. 10x50 is around $30. Use self tapping screws to adhere the Cordura and netting to the frame.

Ebay and it came in 20x10 and I folded it in half to create two layers and one for each side. Then bought a small one for motor cover. I have a total of $312 in my blind total. I think the netting was called "British military netting" make sure it genuine military with net backing and all mildew and rot resistance
