I've been trying to design a simply pirogue rack for my boat that will hold 1-2 pirogues to and from my hunting spot. I've got a simple design in my head using EMT galvanized conduit and basically making two football goal post shaped racks, one to attach to vertical support of front deck and one to attach to vertical support of rear deck. Then my pirogues can sit right on the rack, off to the side of my center console. I think this design will work, but I figured you guys probably had some cool ideas or have maybe some pirogue racks of your own |

And if you're wondering why I don't just throw them pirogues in the boat...I've already tried that and they don't stay very well while underway, plus they bang the crap out of my console and the actual pirogues. Had two pirogues, upside down, and tied together, fly out of my 18 foot boat last year on the road while only going about 35mph...they took off like a freakin kite... |

Get rid of the pirogues, that's why you got a MM. JK. Check out the ones on the Go-Devil Site. Build them out of something heavier like those cause EMT is probably too weak. I thought about building some and was gonna build them like the ones from GD, notice the chainlinks on the uprights to bind everything down with a ratchet strap. |

Yea, you're right, the ones on the go-devil site look good. Looks like they have some sort of pin for a quick release from some kind of bracket you mount on the boat? There's is probably all aluminum...I might be able to find some cheap at a scrap yard here. |

My buddy lost his "goal posts" for a while. He made some out of heavy wall PVC that worked pretty well. As for getting rid of the pirogues, don't know about you but that mud boat can be kind of hard to hide. |

This a dead topic, but just wanted to update some pictures in case someone needed any ideas for a pirogue rack. I made these a couple years ago and never updated this post. Racks were made from 1/8"x1" aluminum tubing that I cut and welded into the modified field goal post shape. Also made some brackets that attach to the front deck and side of the boat for the racks to slip into. Both are removable with pins. |
