It has a 23 mud buddy on it, the guy I got it from had them cut and shaped so you can turn the motor completely.

 Re: Pods on a 1448?
You want to be able to drain them and if you fill them with some floatation foam, you won't be able to. The pods should be totally water tight, so there isn't much point in adding floatation in the pods. I'd keep those pods on that 1448 because the weight of that motor sinks the transom down quite a bit without the pods. I no longer have my 1448, but pods were a good addition when I had a 25 longtail on it.

Why do you want flotation in them?

 Re: Pods on a 1448?
Pods rob the motor of water by creating alot of turbulance. By a motor that is best suited for your boat with out having to add stuff to the boat.
If you fill them with foam and it leaks then you got the same problem go-devil has, water logged foam will put more weight on that rear end than you can imagine

 Re: Pods on a 1448?
Plan A
leave them on. The flotation = L x ((W1+W2)/2)x h x62.4 = # of floatation
Convert everything to feet. The pods add significant uplift behind the transom and Counter act the massive moment arm called a mud motor.
Plan B Buy a mud boat. That's my next step. Jon boat mods suck. Still a jon boat.
Good luck.
