is there a way to check the year of a motor and the hp of it. The guy is unsure of year and hp of the motor. is there a place that i can look for a serical number or id code any help would be much apricated

Should be a plate on motor that has all info needed. They're in different locations on different motors tho

On Briggs it on the head the last ones (i think it says code above it) is the bliuld date. Thats where it is on my 23hp

The 35 used to be by the oil filter, now its stamped into the #2 rocker arm cover.

thanks for your help. The guy i bought the motor from told me it was a 27 but after looking its a 31 looks like taking the gamble worked out this time!!!
