Just bought a new 27 prodrive and put it on a 14' 42" bottom boat not a good setup. Anyone have any suggestions on what would be good with this motor. I will be using it in cypress sloughs and flooded timber.

thanks for your help I put it in the water today for the first time I was so excited about it have been wanting a surface drive for a long time and was sick after about 10 minutes looked like a barge going through the water. I guess I didn't do enough research on the proper boat before jumping into the motor.

It should plane out with no problem.

Does your transoms hieghts match?

Author:  dadams [ Tue Dec 18, 2012 9:01 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Need help with new 27 pro drive

yes they match have a 20" transom and bought a long shaft motor. It would only run about 2800 rpms in deep water it would open on up in shallow water but the boat was so deep in the water that it was still really slow.

Try adding wieght to the front. How did you have it trimmed?

Author:  dadams [ Tue Dec 18, 2012 9:16 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Need help with new 27 pro drive

tried almost every position on the trim all the way up seemed to work better than anywhere else in deep water. Not than any position was working all that well. I called pro drive and talked with them and they were telling me that my boat is to small. My biggest concern is that i spend more money and buy a longer boat and still not happy. It doesn't make sense to me that a longer boat will solve this problem when it seems short on power can someone please explain.

It ain't an outboard and you have to get rid of that mentality. It will run better on a 20 foot boat than a 14 footer. I agree with woodie that 1742 should be a pretty good size boat for that motor.

my cousin has the same exact boat and motor

it runs ok... i would think you need to turn up more rpm

I run a 27 on a 1748. It isn't a pd but it pushed the boat pretty well.

I had a 27 on a 15 X42 Seark. It ran pretty damn goodwith 2 people. Deep water would plane out and run 24 all day long turning up 4000 rpm. 12 gallon gas tank and battery in front. Put to much weight and it suffered bad.

You don't think that it will help me or do you think that it will make it worse.

It will still suck. You need a longer boat.

Add an extra 18 to 24" to the back of your boat with a hunt deck. Didnt Rod do that.

Post subject:  Re: Need help with new 27 pro drive

I took my motor back to the dealer on saturday and dropped it off. They started to say the same thing pro drive was telling that my boat was to small (in pro drives defense our conversations were over the phone and not in person) but they would take it out and try to run it. Called me back today and said something is wrong with my motor they didn't know what it was yet but that they were working on it. Thanks again to everyone for their help but at least I know that I'm not off my rocker crazy I know I'm crazy because all I want to do is kill a duck. Hunted in western kentucky today no ducks not seeing many ducks

Post subject:  Re: Need help with new 27 pro drive

I have to write a retraction on my post. The dealer fixed the problem with the choke and put it back on my boat still would not run. Put the motor on a 16x52 and it ran like it was suppose to with 3 people. To solve my problem I traded my 27 for a 36 horse and bought a 17x50 gator trax boat going back tomorrow to pick it up will post some pictures tomorrow.

Thanks and thank you very much for your help. I took a friend of mine out today and got some redemption he was with me the first day that I ran the other boat with the 27 that was a bad day he left today saying that is what he had seen on all of the videos he had watched on the internet very impressed with the way it performs.

Nice to hear your enjoying it glad you didn't give up after the 1st trouble there's almost no comparison between the 27&36 you'll like this one a lot more !

Post subject:  Re: Need help with new 27 pro drive

The dealer set the 27 on a 16x52 and we put three people in it and it would push it ok but it would not really plane it out it ran perfect with 2 people that third person really hurt it. Ran the 36 on the 17x50 with three people and it planed out nicely and today with just two it was really fun to run it still amazes me that the shallower the water the faster it would run would like to come down in your neck of the woods some day and ride.
