I have a 14ft alumacraft riveted JB. I just purchased a 23hp LT from BW inc motor weight is about 170..(same weight as 13hp). Would anyone out there that has a heavy motor on a JB suggest pods? Would increasing transom height do anything? |

Putting Pods on a mud motor hull is a big no no. |

With a longtail, I think the pods would serve your purpose. Most guys wouldn't recommend pods if you were using a surface drive though. I had a 14' jon with a 25 hp longtail and the transom was too low to the water for my comfort, so I put pods on my boat. It definitely helped get the transom up from the waterline and reduce the risk of backsplash. I also didn't notice any difference in speed. Increasing your transom height would negatively affect your performance if you have a longtail that wasn't designed for a high transom, so I'd put on some pods instead of raising the transom. |
