Is it easy to secure the grass like that? Most people I see have it hanging down, which looks wrong to me. But i was wondering how easy it is to put like that. It seems like zip ties wouldn't hold up.

Yea it definitely looks more realistic and has a more 3-D look to it. That's why I was asking, it looks good.

Yup, I remember that and all the zip ties. Looks great. You dying any off the grass? RIT dye in a spray bottle works great. Then star brite waterproofing spray at academy will keep the grass free of water.

FD, this is the raffia I did last year with the powdered rit dye. I put it in the icechest and let it sit for a hour or so then took it out and let it dry.

However it's best if you take the bundle of raffia apart nicely, then seperate it in 1" round bundles, then cut them, then dye it. It's harder to pull the strands like I did the 1st time. I would sit and seperate them, laying the strands lenghtwise till they made a bundle about 1" thick, Took some zip ties and place them at 3 different places and cut them. Making a pom-pom more or less. I was then able to pass them through the fast grass and the netting to zip tie them in place.
I did 2 different colors.
End result

BTW, I had picked up the raffia from Academy. It was a cleance deal. They were bundled as hanks, which is 2lb bundles. I may still have one bundle left. I'd have to look for it.

Do y'all paint the Avery grass or leave it natural? I painted mine with a dark base coat then covered it with a lighter greenier top coat. Seemed to give it a nice shadow effect.

Looks good. I'm trying to decide myself whether to go with grass or shaggy blind material from ranchosafari.. I'm kinda leaning toward ranchosafari material for the longevity.
