Hey guys,

I know this topic has been discussed a million times, but I wanted to give a little insight to anyone who is thinking about going this route instead of getting HT installed.

I used two rolls of the Best Step foam matting from Sears, and half a gallon of the red can Weldwood gel.
Gator-Tail wanted almost $800 to install the HT, I have about $100 in materials into this. Does it look as good as if GT did it? Nope, but the $700 in my pocket sure feels good.

Let me say that:
-contact cement will instantly strip the paint off the smooth surfaces of your boat (luckily it was only a small patch)
-these sheets are NOT completely square, straight, etc., especially when the hot sun is hitting them. I almost went crazy thinking the bottom of my boat was out of square, until I measured it and realized that the foam was just expanding with the heat.
-also, as you apply the cement to the foam, it curls up which makes it even more fun to deal with fitting in exact dimensions.
-use two people if you can. Trying to be accurate with your placement is really difficult when you have contact cement on the sheet and the bottom of the boat, and the wind decides to start blowing
-in 90* heat, this stuff is still a little hot when you step on it , but after about 2 seconds your foot gets used to it. It is still much cooler than the aluminum you'd be stepping on
-Measure and cut your pieces before you stick them on. I got lazy on my rod box, and stuck the pieces on, then trimmed the edges. Doesn't matter how sharp your razor is, it will still be a jagged edge. You are better off cutting the piece with scissors for a clean edge.

I am a little OCD about my things, but figured for the money, can't beat the stuff and that floor will be abused by dead gators, beer cans, animal blood, spilled gas, tools, layout boats, etc. so I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

I am going to grab another roll to do the front deck when I have some help, those cut outs and small pieces are gonna be a bitch.

Do NOT drop anything on it, it will tear...

Yea I already tore it trying to reposition it, but as long as it keeps my feet cool and eliminates clunking during season then I'll be happy

Yes, but for the price, it's good. I had a folding lawn chair in it's case that I tossed in the boat on my way by. It tore a chunk out of the turf on the floor. Was kinda surprised & disappointed

I've had mine installed for over a month now. One minor scuff on my turf that is all. I don't even remember what caused it. I def aint complaining that's for sure.

Also just slapped on one of these cupholders from Cuda's Customs. If you're looking for something similar for your GT, it is a 1-1/4" overall diameter clamp-on model.

Not advertising, was just satisfied with the product and figured a couple of y'all may have been thinking the same way I was, beer closer to the captain!

That's pretty cool, but I'd think it would vibrate really bad being hard fastened like that.
