Has anyone tried the slick bottom coating product the Boat Dr. sells? He says its done in one coat and has it on his boat.

Well I would hope he uses it if he sells it.

What does he call it? Gator Glide goes on in 3-4 coats. Steel Flex and other Epoxy type coatings go on in one coat.

When it comes time to replace the epoxy type coats, I've been told you have to remove ALL existing material down to bare aluminum.

I had Steel Flex on my boat and taking it down to bare aluminum took me a whole day with sanders, scrapers, and wire brush.

I run around oyster bars about 3 months out if the year and have replace my coat ing every 18 months. If I only ran stump and hydrilla, I would opt for the epoxy type products as I believe they last longer. I bought a 6 yr old boat with the original coating and it was still slick as day one.

You don't have to go down to bare aluminum to re-do epoxy. Remove any loose material, rough sand, wipe with acetone and re-coat.

Quick slick is a 2 part polyester /gel coat with slick added to it. It is not an epoxy. If u r going to apply I suggest you prep the bottom with a 36 grit wheel and a dust coating of zinc chromate not a film.

While I respect Frog's modesty and helpfulness here, if I may interject, get Gator Glide and thank me later! You can do it yourself for about the same price WITHOUT flipping the boat. Touching it up or redoing it is easy. It works awesome! And most of all, Frog will be there to help you with any question you can come up with. I'll be calling him soon to hook me up with some more G2 to re-coat mine. Mine has lasted about 2 years, 250 engine hours, 2 duck seasons, and a lot of testing the limits of what "my first mud boat" could do...

Read some of the Gator Glide threads on here, and think about this: If Frog is this willing to give you helpful tips when you're considering someone else's product, imagine how great he'll be to have around when you're buying his product! Best of luck to you with the new rig!

From what I have seen and read and from me Installing this on my rig u don't have to go bare metal just a good scuffing with a da and then wipe down with acetone then u ready to apply.
I would think on the second application of this would be the same way.

Get it. I'll never have another duck boat without it. My boat's sitting completely on dry ground in the back yard right now and I'm about to go slide it back in the water by myself n shoot some crows.

Hey Frog,Say you use about 2 foot of boat to hold the front up and go ahead and GatorGlide the boat leaving that last 2 foot of rake undone,When you set boat back on trailer can you just do that section with base and g2?
