Do they attach to the boat in any way, or are they made to be moveable? I may be interested in a couple myself.

I picked them up with the boat which he built. Can't remember how much they cost. They don't fasten to the boat in any way. I don't have a measurement on the seat height but for me I'm 6'3 and they're pretty perfect on height for me.

Post subject:  Re: Pyramid seat base

J makes the seat bases about 10" tall, which works just fine, but I'd rather them be about 2-3" taller for me. I'm 6'4".

He sells them for around $100, but the more you buy the cheaper they get. I believe he told me not long ago that two would be around $175. But it would be best to get in touch with him, which isn't always easy...

anyone ever built them out of stainless? The reason I ask is that I have a tig setup but it doesnt weld aluminum..

Post subject:  Re: Pyramid seat base

Seems like they would be heavy and expensive, but don't see why you couldn't if that's what you have to work with.

Post subject:  Re: Pyramid seat base

I can get stainless at scrap price most of the time so I wouldnt have much money in them. And yes I know they would be heavier, just wonder how much more than aluminum.

Post subject:  Re: Pyramid seat base

I'm sure there is a calculator online where you can type in the material type and thickness to get a guestimate on weight. They will be heavier, but wouldn't think it would be anything to be too concerned with. Just don't over build them. Use the thinnest material you can get away with.

I have not seen anyone else build them out of anything but aluminum to more directly answer your question. Most of the guys making them build boats and have aluminum laying around, not stainless.

Use the search. I've posted pics and dimensions more than once.

Post subject:  Re: Pyramid seat base

The ones I make vary with the customer but we've made some as small as 16 x 16 base and are 13" tall then with the seat they are pretty much perfect. Have made them wider and shorter but the 16 x 16 has good balance and doesn't take up a ton of room like the wider bases.

I sale the 16 x 16 x 13 tall for $100 with single color paint. Can get any kind of seats also for cheaper than most retail options but the more you buy the better the deal

.100 alum 5086 is 1.38 lbs per sq ft.

.125 alum 5086 is 1.728 lbs per sq ft.

16 ga (.0508) 304 stainless is 2.0994 lbs per sq ft.

Not much of a difference but it is heavier. I would go with alum.
