Building a boat from basically stretch and had a couple questions. On longitudal stringers what is the best choice?
I see most mud boats run 2x2 square but most airboats run t bars. Just curious what the strongest shape stronger would be.

1x2x1/8. Or 2x2x1/8. I've seen some guys use hat channel too. But don't recall seeing a mud boat with t bar.

How big is the boat going to be?

Boat is 1860 slick bottom flat fronted. Boat will either outboard or outboard jet.

But I have found more useful info on building them and idea on this site so I joined even tho it's not a mud rig.

2 piece. How many 2x2 in a 60 inch floor and are any cross bracing required that aren't touching the bottom of boat?

All depends where he's running. The marsh down south you could get away with 5. The stumps in y'all and Owens area 7 or more. He did say he was putting an outboard right? Just guessing he won't be running alot of stumps

Yes seemed down the middle.

Ok I was thinking seven or eight would do. Just want plenty of strength as I wanna keep this boat a long while.

And yes an outboard. I live northeastern Oklahoma. Not crazy amount of stumps but we are kinda gentle.

Go with 7 so you have one down the middle on top of you seam.

Only issue with the one right in the middle is they folded the lip back and welded it that way, so there's a seam right in the middle on the inside. I guess I could use channel over the top or cut the bottom out of a square to lay over it.

How much strength would be lost by going with 1.5" square?

Can get a discount on that size for ordering a bulk quantity.

I've heard of people using hat channel for braces. Says its just as strong and lighter.

hat section is strong and a good bit lighter .64 lbs. per ft.- 1x2x1/8 tubing .809 lbs. fer ft.- 2x2x1/8 tubing 1.103 lbs. per ft. even using 11/2x 1/8 tube still weighs .809 a ft. 11/2x2 is what some builders use laid flat with the 11/2 vertical and 11/2x2x1/8 is .956 fer ft.

I tack my braces together on the ends and one time in the middle. Use a set of plate rolls and roll all of them at one time. And I make a template out of 3/4 or 1/2 tubing with my set if rolls.
