So, I purchased a boat fairly cheap from a hunting buddy and the hull of the boat is totally dented up. While I knew this going into it, and I am okay with it, I was wondering if there are any good ways of getting the dents out. Could I leave it on the trailer and take a sledge hammer to it to get the dents out? Put it on the surface of my garage and take a sledge to it? Any help is appreciated. Just trying to increase performance a little bit if I can.

Get a 2x4 and a sledge hammer and start beating. If you can get the hooks out, the performance of the boat will def. increase.

If the hooks are bad, try this...Fasco Epoxies(same company that makes steelflex) makes an epoxy that is recommended for hull repairs. Use the epoxy first (it is much cheaper than steelflex), and once you have smoothed out all of the imperfections, then come over the top of the repair with steelflex. It worked on my boat.

Hey Duckbill, if you happen to go with Steelflex,ask the people at FASCO, that`s who sells it(305-821-9441), ask them about the filler. They have a special filler that you can fill in hooks or dents-prior to Steelflex.

Well, the sledge hammer/2X4 method was putting stress on my welds, so I have that up. My Tiny Tach came in today and I installed it and I am only getting 3400 RPM out of the water at WOT. I have a 24 hp honda beavertail motor. I was thinking I should get more around 4000-4200 RPM out of the water and around 3600 or so in the water. Is this correct? If so, I obviously need to make some adjustments to get my RPMs up. That could defniitely help with speed.

Thanks for the info on the steelflex and other products. How easy is this stuff to use and what are the costs associated with is? How long will it take to apply. I'm not sure I want to do it if it's too expensive. I really just need this boat to get me to and from point A & B at a reasonable speed because I am thinking I will probably upgrade the boat in the next year or two. Hopefully if I can get my RPMs up I will be happy with my speed and will deal with the dented hull for now.

That being said, any experts here on honda engines and how to get the RPMs up? There's a screw you can adjust for WOT but it seems like it is as far out as it can go. Would tightening the governor spring up a bit help out with this?
