Post First rig, beaver tail questions??
I'm buying my first mm rig this summer and am really leaning towards a beavertail 1754 or 1854 with either a gtr 35 or a backwater swomp 35. I run a lot of big water to get to the shallow spots, and some river running also. I have ran my friends 1854 with a backh20 35 on it and I love the boat, but I also would like a little more speed, kinda why I'm leaning towards a little smaller boat. The reason I've chose beavertail is cause I'm from mn and so are they, I know there are others out there, but what are your thoughts on on the beaver tails? I also like the gtr35 because the reverse would be handy and I know a surface drive will get me the speed I want, what would the pros and cons be between both the swomp 35 and the gtr35? Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Those beavertail boats aint work a fukk and for 8K you can get a really nice mud boat. Just get a GT boat it so much better for much cheaper. Or since your up in the midwest get a phowler a 1756 on basically the same layout w/ gun box is still cheaper and built way better. I wouldn't even consider buying a BT boat.

You can order a gatortail boat and have it shipped to a dealer up here for less than 8k. The folks at beaver tail are dicks and they make shitty boats.

Call bubba at gatortail and get a quote to have a boat shipped up to the nearest dealer.

Plus BT puts pods on all of their boats, those are SD killers. If you want a indestructible boat look at a Kann.

I rode in BT boat not bad for up here - handled big water nice. IF you go with GT call and talk to:

Justin Lightfoot
507-828-6969

or

Johnson's Boats and Motors
Montello WI 53949
608-297-2562

go with what you like - these guys don't like BT stuff, I almost bought one too. here is my .02

BT Boat
pro - local company
cons - $$$$, PODS no hunt deck, .100 hulls

GT
pro - neutral, reverse, very good reputation/products
cons - long wait list - high demand

SWOMP 35
pro - local company, best LT on market, short wait time (this will be changing I'm sure very soon) very good reputation/products.
cons - no reverse, no neutral

SWOMP being the best LT out there is debatable...

Compared to the 3 gdlt's I have owned they are. I'm not knocking GD but those BW's are smooth runners and the cav. plate is way better.

Thanks a bunch guys for all your input. There are a few options I'm considering now, but once I have it figured out and the decision is made, I'll let you know.

Those beaver tail boats are junk, a friend of mine had one and while riding one day with him, he hit a submerged log on a sharp turn and ripped a hole in it like a tin can. They also have foam in them that will eventually get water logged. If you plan on buying a GT either buy a GT boat or go custom if that's an option.

Well after doing some research I have decided I'm going to ditch the beaver tail idea and look more into a gator tail, gator trax, or a prodigy. I have talked with prodigy through some massaging on Facebook and am giving him a call tomorrow. They seem like the best option and very competitively priced, plus since I will use this boat year round I think it would be a good choice to have the cat walks and deck. Now as far as the motors go, I'm leaning towards the 35 backwater lt. But am still thinking about spending the extra money and going gtr35 SD. Just not to sure yet, we run up on to a lot of cat tail bogs and I feel like a long tail would be a better option for raising and lowering the motor. As I said before, I have experience running the long tails, and like them a lot. But the SD is still an option, cause I do like to go fast!

If you are interested in a Gatortrax Muddy Waters in Lacrosse, Wi has some newer used ones in stock that would save you a little cash or if you are set on a new one there are a couple in stock now and new ones on order to be in soon.

I bought a beavertail MM once and only once...
Had problems with it the moment I purchased it...customer service was non existent to say the least

You better believe I was blowing 8K on a boat or even more on a boat and motor combination I would put my money elsewhere. Beavertail will not EVER get one more red cent from me

WC Custom boats started on my 1854 Monday. I spoke with a couple if different builders and Pete has been a pro. He listens to what I want asks about additions then says "it's your boat lets make it how you want it". Other builders sometimes have a know it all attitude and challenge why I want a Back H20 instead of a SD. Pete has been fabulous to work with and is even building me a davit system for my duck boat to load and unload from my 1854. Sport deck, cat walks, gun box, dog ladder, additional tie downs. And buy the way he did all this for a fair price!!!!! Glad I went with WC Custom for my 1854 with back H2o 35. Can't wait
