Post subject:  Custom boat for an outboard

I am looking for suggestions as to who builds a good custom boat with large front deck with storage and rod box for an outboard at an affordable price. I am looking to have someone build something no larger than an 18 x 54 for a tiller. Possibly a tunnel but seems like someone really needs to know how to build one in order for it to perform correctly. Any info would be appreciated.

I just tested a nice 1854 with 24" sides Prodigy with a 70 yamaha on it this very morning. It was a sweet setup. Kinda made me miss outboards.

It ran a solid 38 this morning. The rpms were low though so it needs to try some different props to get it dialed in right. It was fun though after running mud motors for so long.

38 w 2 guys, 2 coolers, 2 large optimas, trolling motor, 20 gallons of fuel..........

turning 5600 rpms.........need to drop to a 15 pitch power tech to get the rpms up more...........

5600 sounds right with that load. Empty you should be close to 6000.

Haven't run a 90.. The f70 is so much lighter and is a sweet engine that doesn't burn much fuel..... 90 would prob get into low to mid 40"s I'd think..

I just bought a Yamaha F70 and I am Highly Impressed with the Fuel Economy but I only have 6 Hrs on it. Does the Fuel usage get better after 10 Hrs?

18X42 Southfork Vented Tunnel Hull with Hydraulic Jackplate. I ran a 15 P Powertech Semicleaver and was hitting the Rev Limiter @ 6300. I just ordered a 13x17 P True Yamaha Semicleaver. That should keep me off the Rev Limiter and give me more Speed.

Bump for an oldie. I was just doing some homework on re-powering with an outboard and this is about the best thread I've found so far.

Anybody have anything to add with an 1854 sized boat and a 70ish HP outboard?

Can anybody tell me if the boat (square chine) will slide less or more with the outboard than with the mm?

Thanks,

That is helpful. I was planning to go run it a while and then possibly have some runners added to the bottom if it was skating bad. I’m hesitant to do that though just because there aren’t any builders near me.

Prowler is probably my closest option.
