Post subject:  Gator Tail Boat or Gator Trax Flats Boat for Poling?

Buying new rig and narrowed it down to either Gator Tail or Gator Trax Flats boat.

I'm going 17 ft. with 35 GTR.

Mainly I would like to know which boat is best for poling?

Does anyone have any experience poling either one?

I don't expect it to pole like a real fiberglass flats boat but just want it to be possible.

Will be using it for:
50% duck hunting
50% sight fishing

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brandon

I've got the 1754 gatortail with a poling platform form and only complaint is when turning sharply to theright the tiller hits the platform. Other than that works great for poling around and spotting fish. Very stable

Aluminum boat and sight fishing don't really mix. But if you're down to those two, get a 54" wide gator series (square chine) boat. I have one and that fcker will float in inches of water.

Thanks Kenny, going with center console so hopefully that won't be an issue. Glad to hear it's stable when poling.

Krogers- square chine seems like the way to go for shallow draft. Thinking about adding two runners on bottom to help with the boat tracking straight.

Just keep in mind hill
Slap on aluminum is a killer for shallow fish. Get a Gatortail and a flats skiff!

Have u looked into the hydro flats boats. I saw then at the sportsman expo they seem prety sturdy for a fiberglass hull.

Depending on how much poling you plan on doing, I recommend trying both. Hard to maneuver flat bottom boats poling, square chimes also doesn't help. Round chimes will help in turning while poling. If you use a trolling motor most of the time and just pole to sneak on fish, either will do. If you plan on poling only, make sure you try both. I find longer and narrower the boat, better it poles. Also weight makes a major difference.

I pole my gator trax all the time. Hunt out of it often too. No complaints. Love the turning ability of a round chine boat.
