I'm sure it's been covered, but I'm considering a 1652 flat jon with a 23hp surface drive. Anyone else running something similar and what kind of speeds are you getting? The hull weighs around 350 lbs.

Thanks

I have a Monark 1542 with a custom deck in the front, bow fishing platform and a 23 hp mudbuddy. The bottom is not a truly a flat bottom (slight V) and does have longitudinal keel/ribs. Myself, my dog and minimal gear I can consistently run 21-22 mph. 2 guys, a dog and full hunt load and I am probably around 15 -16 mph. I bet you will top out about the same but probably wont lose as much when loaded.

I'm running at 1544 slick bottom with a 23gdsd. I stay around 20-22 with a light load. Thinking about going to a Copperhead 23 to see a little more speed.

I have a 1548 Southfork hull with a 23 gtr. It's a semi-v open floor plan. With 2 people, I'm at 22mph in shallow water. Haven't tested speeds under a load, but with 4 people it struggles to get on plane. Your hull should carry a load much better though. Also, you will not regret the GTR! It is a badass little motor and reverse comes in handy a lot more than you might think.

I have a 1650 xpress with a 23 hp long tail.. And It tops out empty around 19.. Go ahead and buy a 35 hp motor. Your boat should be big enough to hold it. Always get as much hp as you can afford and fit. I'm buying either a 35 MB or 35 Gtr in about 3 weeks.

Running a 15-48 G-3 with a 23hp sd on it fine for 2 big boys around 20 -21mph. 22 by myself can't run 3 boys won't get on plane. Get a 35 so you don't have to later.

You won't get max performance out of a job boat but it will do. A 23
Would push that 1652 Jon pretty good

I have a 1744 flat bottom with a 23. Hull weighs about 375 lbs. I get 23 mph with a 2 man hunting load and dog. 25 mph or so with a lighter fishing load. If you do it, get a light weight 23 Copperhead or similar.

I run a 1652 with a modded 35 on it. I wouldn't run that boat with less than a 35 or you will always be cussing at how it won't get on step with a load.

I also have a 1651 with a modded 35. I'd never have anything less then what I have now. Too much boat and not enough power with those 23s. You won't like it loaded

I run a 1748 with my stage 2 23hp GTR. I get 26ish solo and 24 loaded with gear. My boat weighs in with tank batteries trolling motor etc at about 600lbs plus me solo.
