Thinking about buying a new Alumacraft 1648. Can't decide between mod-v and regular jon. I run the Mississippi and it's backwaters. How much performance do you lose in a mod-v? Do those of you who run them have any problems with them? I will be strapping a 27hp Pro Drive on it. Thanks for any help.

Not the best of set ups as far as performance and durability. Spend the money on a hull made for a Mud Motor-smooth bottom, longitudanal bracing, .125 hull thickness with hardened grade of aluminum-it will save you money in the long run.

Mudd haven't watched that in a while.

I think the waterfowler was 54 inches wide, broke ice like a mofo, smooth too. Damn jon boats break it in sheets and then as you push the sheet under the boat your boat slides back into the water and the sides get pounded into the unbroken stuff. On step it would go just as shallow as any flat problem was when you stopped. The mod v also fell on its face when you put more then 2 guys and hunting gear. A Flat will perform better in the shallows, and under load and is what I run now (1848). The transom on the waterfowler was cracking after 2yrs so make sure to add some extra bracing. I would think a 1648 flat would be a servicable gap filler until ya get the money saved up for a real "mud boat".
