Whats the best achor to use in the mud or sand when you cant reach a bank. The area I hunt has very low water this year and it i just the matter of time before I get stuck. I was thinking of carrying a small come-along winch, 100 feet of poly and 2, 4 foot 1/2 inch re-bar poles (or square aluminum poles)that I would drive into the mud on an angle away from the boat in line with each other. Then tie them together and attach the come-along to the one closest to the boat. I will set it up and test it but first I was looking for ideas from you guys that have experience.

I myself haven't had much luck finding a do it all anchor as of yet. The Louisiana marsh is a forever changing beast. hard bottom in one place, thick and soupy in another with no bottom in sight, but the mother of all stuck is what we call coffee grinds!

I still carry a medium size come-a-long, 100ft of 5/8 breaded nylon, four 5ft sticks of 2" pvc pipe and a 6ft cajun anchor. That usually gets me out 80% of the time, but I'm cursing and busting my ass the whole time! lol

I find my best anchor is my cell phone! lol ;)

This setup is the one I was thinking. Simple and easy to carry. I need to test it in the soft stuff to see how it works.

Found This on the internet.
In the Second World War we had all kinds of problems with mud. The problem of winching trucks out of mud was a big issue. It was solved by driving a metal stake into the ground, slanted slightly backward so that the cable to the truck would slide to the ground .
When enough pressure in put on the stake , it tends to lean toward the force, and pull out . In order to prevent that , the stake had a short section of chain attached to the top . The short chain had a ring at the end. A second stake would be driven through the ring . Now it is much harder to tip the first stake, but not impossible on a very hard pull. If there was any doubt , a third or fourth stake was used .
Even in quite unstable soil , we were able to winch the truck out, in almost all cases .
Trucks carried their own winches on the front bumper . When necessary , we would run all of the cable out , so that the greatest pull was on the axel of the winch . A full spool has far less strength than an empty one .
Empty - - more power , less distance. Full - - - more distance, less power
