Got on the job this morning...used a saw zaw and a crow bar and got done what i needed to get done. I was able to grab onto the floor at the back of the boat abd just pull it up by hand, all the rivets were already busted...took a sawzaw and cut the left pod out and it came out all in one piece, no blasting of foam was necessary it poped right out. Just got the right pod to remove now. The pod itself with the foam in it weighed about 40lbs. The foam in the floor was absolutely saturated and weighed probably close to 50lbs all together. Plus a ton of mud that was inbetween the ribs. All together I removed probably 100+lbs between mud and wet foam.

Post subject:  Re: The foam...

It really wasn't all that bad. All the foam was in its own capsule type deal and that was welded to the ribs in 5 places on the front then welded all the way across on the side of the boat on bottom side. Once i figured out how to get those back welds loose it came right out in one big piece

The foam in the floor wasnt glued in or anything just pulled the floor up and the foam slid right out. Gonna start working on getting the other pod out this week when i got some free time. Anyone know where i can find sheet aluminum for a decent price?

Pulled the right pod out this afternoon, it was alittle more of a pain...the cap came off but not the rest. Just left me with a glued down block of foam. Took a saw zall with a 10" blade and started cutting cubes out at a time and had it all done in about 20 minutes or so. You guys made it sound like rocket science with the pressure washer and shit lol just cut that shit right out and it wasn't even messy. Gonna pressure wash all the mud out of the floor tomorrow and get it cleaned up and the the floor cut to fit back in the boat and gonna try and start running new wires for everything. Hope fully i'll have everything thing done and ready to go by the end of the weekend and ready to weld up when my neighbor gets back this week ImageUploadedByTapatalk1430448060.342211.jpg

"The foam in the floor was absolutely saturated and weighed probably close to 50lbs all together."

If the foam really was saturated, I bet it weighed a lot more than that.

I want to pull up the floor and pull the foam out of my boat. Epecially since i can't get the damn thing to drain right without parking it on a hill.

Post subject:  Re: The foam...

Its not under the floor where it drains, its under those big ass pods. I'll take a pic later but i put a water hose up in the front yesterday and filled it up abd theres a spot in where the water pools up and dosent drain until it gets to a certain level..

Just about got it finished up today. Been pretty busy here lately and haven't got to work on it much. Only thing i got left to do on it is weld the sides where the speakers are. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1433012347.783207.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1433012356.230509.jpg

Nice!
Are you just gonna sit on a cooler now, or put a seat base in there?

Allot better than with the pods, but why not put the battery on other side.

If your going to have a floor, why not seal weld it and have an air pocket for flotation (but keep a drain plug to find leak). Better yet, raise and slope the floor for self bailing.

It was probably a solid 4-5 days of work. Just stretched out over a month lol i started the day after mud bugs ride and finished yesterday, so about a month and a week.

Im really happy the way it turned out, especially for a fabrication job all by myself  im not exactly what you call "mechanicly inclined" haha

Thanks, Tad. My hydro turf should be in today. I'll have that installed by monday or Tuesday and i'll get a few more pics up. Thats the last thing i have to do and it is COMPLETE. After 2 whole months... Turned into alot bigger project than I expected. Lots of tedious work.

Got a better stereo system installed, west marine pro series speakers, two 6.5's and two 6x9's powered with a Rockford Fosgate 400 watt marine amp. At 1/3 volume in my driveway i cant hear the motor idle over them. Havent ran it wtfo yet but i dont think it will be a problem.

Looks good man. Did you change your speakers already?

Post subject:  Re: The foam...

Thanks guys. Real happy with the turn out.

And yeah I already swaped out the speakers, i had the cheep pyle speakers off of amazon and they sounded like crap when i put a good amp behind them. I think i paid $40 for those 4 speakers lol. So i pulled those out and went snd got 4 west marine pro series speakers. It straight up jams now.

Post subject:  Re: The foam...

It was actually much easier than I expected. I ordered the 47x86 sheet and had a good bit left over. I figured i coukd get away with doing the rest of the boat with 2 more sheets. But thats a project for later, im done with that hoe for awhile im tired of working on it lol

Pulled up my floor yesterday. Looks like I found the same thing.

Where did you get that aluminum sheet? What thickness did you go with?

Post subject:  Re: The foam...

I got it from Bemis sheet metal in baytown by the fredhartman bridge. I got a 4x10 sheet in 1/8 thickness. I paid $209 fkr it I believe

I need to pull the foam outta my excel... Looks fun. Was hoping to be able to reuse my aluminum floor

Post subject:  Re: The foam...

I pulled my front and rear floor. There was only foam in the rear. the front was kinda dirty but not bad.

I think I can reuse floor, but I'm wanting to make some storage in the pods & front deck.

Here's mine. Did it about a week ago. I left the pods in for storage area. While the floor was out I ran wires for a radio and added LED lights front and rear and also light strips to act as shark eye nav lights.

I like how that turned out. How did you run the wires to the back of the boat?
