any of you guys run alweld boats? I have been searching around and they are priced pretty low. im wondering if there is a reason for that or if they are a decent hull for a lower price.

I had an old 14-52 jon from alweld. Loved it. Cheap. Would run like a raped ape with a 25. Would NOT have been any good with a mud motor.

With a longtail, any flat will do the job. Some better than others. Ran a 24 Honda mb lt on a 1546 xpress for a many years with no issue. The alweld would be similar. Make sure the bottom is flat, the boat is fairly light, and the rig fits your price range. You'll be happy unless you have unreasonable expectations. You can upgrade down the road when funds allow, but may decide you don't need to.

Just know that longitudinal stringers won't allow for hooks in the bottom like horizontal bracing. Hooks affect performance, but aren't nearly as noticeable with a Longtail as they are with a surface drive

I've got a crappy alweld right now, I don't do stumps so I really don't need a thicker hull like a .125. I will go thicker in the future when $$ allows. I have a 35gdsd. Works absolutely fine, I've never had a true flat bottom mud hull so I don't know the difference in driving one vs ribbed bottom like my alweld. I do have hooks everywhere, but the boat is old and I'm not worried about running 30mph either. I've had 2 other old ribbed bottom boats with longtails. they did just fine

I've got an alweld wth a 36 prodrive.
I personally like the boat. I don't run stumps whatsoever, so theres no need for a thicker bottom hull.

The boats are cheap, and last a lifetime if you take care of them.

I also run a 16' x 48" with a 36 prodrive, been running it for over 6 years, no problems with the boat

I hunt with a guy that runs a 17x52 alweld with 36PD and he likes it. Granted he doesn't run any stumps, but it gets the job done

Dead drake I believe Alwelds are .100 aluminum. If you are looking for a mud motor type boat just look in the classifieds. There are some really nice boats for sale that are priced 'right". Guys switch boats for all kinds of reasons and that is good for a guy on the hunt for a boat.
