Post securing K2 cooler as boat seat?
I have seen a few guys on here securing their coolers to the floor of the boat with some sort of strap. Can you post a picture up or let me know where you got the strap? Leaning towards a K2 Summit series 20. No seat in this hull which I really like as it really frees up the space for me to stand in that area instead always being up against the seat. The K2 20 seems just right in size. Might be ok without securing it as it has rubber feet. Might consider a pyramid seat base if I can be convinced it would not be tippy. Thoughts?

K2 offers a tie down kit for securing the coolers.

SC I saw that. The picture in the linked looked like a different one and a cleaner version. I guest a small ratchet strap is all it would take.

I have used almost every tie down system made for coolers in my boats, and the best by far (also the most expensive) is the turnbuckle system. The cooler will never move and if you want to remove it for any reason there aren't big cleats in the floor. The yeti type tie downs work too, they are just not quite as nice as the other.

All the frigid rigid stuff is nice and well made but that turnbuckle system can be pieced together from the hardware store for about 1/4 of the price... I used a similar deal to mount my 55qt Brute Box on my service truck. The turnbuckles hooked in the locking holes up by the cooler and the other end mounted in the truck. Untold thousands of miles down oilfield roads and interstate highway and it's never budged.

I do have the old style Brute, and I put the locking holes in myself where I wanted them. Drilled a hole thru and flared a piece of 1/2" brass tubing, tapped it thru the hole, and flared the other end. Been this way for years and never budged. I use a cable lock in the back of the truck thru the same holes.

~sigh~

Us Florida guys always have to come along and straighten you LA and TX goofballs out, and save you from yourselves...(kidding.)

...if you'd like a tiedown system for your K2, Engel, Yeti, Igloo, etc. and want to be able to remove the cooler and not be left with a toe-breaker, use the Kennedy tiedowns. Cheaper, and if you remove the eye (or t-bolt if you want to use straps instead of a turnbuckle), you only have a tiny little piece of 1/8" on your boat floor.

$42.00 vs $89.00 for the same item, made by the same people, from Frigid Rigid...and the link I posted gives you an option for straps as well if somebody doesn't want tie-downs.

I do what I can for you clowns! ;)

For what it's worth, you don't need to even use screws to mount those plates to your floor. A little bit of 4200, and they never go anywhere, on fiberglass (I have them on my flats boat) or the mudboat. And if you have seadek or hydro turf, the plates will practically be flush with the top of the seadek.

Regardless of whether you piece it together at the hardware store, buy them from Kennedy, or Frigid Rigid, they are all better options than the overpriced toe busters from Yeti.
