Was looking at a 1851 excel. I was wondering what everyone thought about the excel boats. It was a .125 gauge boat. They even put a liner on the outside of the boat.

Any of the availalbe motors should push that boat at 27mph unloaded.......not sure about the 40 Kohler. I don't know nothing about em

a 36 prodrive will push that boat at least 27, probly more.

plus u would have a real reverse option. and it's easier to drive.

demo one with whatever engine u like. a good dealer will do this for u for free.

good luck.

Looked at a couple of there new boats up in Savanna, IL the other day when passing through, looked nice compared to the ones I have seen in the past, they have made some nice improvements. These are the first ones we have seen up this way since they reopened. Price tag seemed a bit high. Only thing I did not like was the new hull bend, it looks neat, but I think it might take away some performance, just my first read. Only other concern is the weight, they look alot heavier then comparable mudboats. Give Tim some props thought, they look nice.

The price wasn't that bad. Loaded with 40 kohler mudbuddy for 14 something. The dealer said it was slower than comparable boats though. I am leaning toward gatortail at the moment, but still have to wait for my boat to sell. I am hoping to get to demo a surface drive in the next month or two.. I have never ridden or driven one. Will prolly make a trip to down there before I order one. I might hate them???

If your looking for a demo ride I can't help you with an Excel, but I got lots of guys who would be happy to run you in a PD boat or Phowler boat with PD motors. Just give us a call or PM as to where you are located and we can hook you up.

I am located in mineola, tx. I was just wondering if you put same boat, same load same conditions, which motor would be faster. Pro drive, gator tail , go-devil or mudbuddy?

Hello from Quitman! I would think they would all be close as far as speed. It would probably be more of what options you want on the motor.

Just my opinion. I owned an Excel 1754 and didnt like the boat at all! Way too heavy and just didnt perform. Aside from that I recieved terrible service from them. I now own a Phowler and am increadibly happy with it. It does everything I could ever want out of a boat. And Paul at Illowa Marine is absolutely the best boat guy I have ever delt with. Just my .02
