Steelflex is the greatest stuff I have ever seen.
Got some for the season and just did the bottom of my jon boat. I went to take it out for the first time, unhooked it from the trailer, got about three feet from the water tapped my brakes and the damn thing slid right off onto the ground. It didnt hurt the boat, and i pushed it into the water off the grass with one hand. I slid all over my local lake trying to get stuck and couldnt. If you have not tried it, do, it was the best money I have spent on my boat so far.

Interesting. I've honestly never even heard of frog spit. I had seen the topic but for some reason i thought it said frog spLit? Did it increase your speed? How does it affect your handling on corners and such?

from what I gather steelflex and frogspit are almost the same, but steelflex is better for metal and frogspit is better for porus materials like fiberglass.I got 2mph on open water and almost 4mph on thick grass and lillies. Its like driving over the thick stuff in an airboat. No noticeable difference on turning. the stuff was $80 shipped for 2 pints which is enough to do 60 square feet. If i had it to do over I would buy a gallon for $100 and covered the sides.

I have steelflex on the bottom of my bowfishing boat. It is chipping off from all these Georgia stumps. I keep forgetting Its not as tough as poly. I wouldn't waste my money. Next time I will go with poly for sure. But it is slick though. I will give it that.

Re: Steelflex is the greatest stuff I have ever seen.
I applied two coats of steel flex, it has held up well. Gives me a few mph I think. Biggest problem is running it up on the ramp or bank. It was a pain in the arse to apply. Had to rig up a hoist in my garage to wire wheel the bottom and prep it right. Make sure you put plastic or card board down cause it isn't coming off of concrete. Not familiar with the poly that has been talked about. What is the skinny on that and who has it?

Re: Steelflex is the greatest stuff I have ever seen.
Application is pretty damn basic. I turned my boat over to do it. Boat was painted so I buffed it down to bare aluminum. Wiped it down with paint thinner a couple times and started mixing steelflex. I had a gallon of it and I mixed about half at a time. Put it in a big tupperware bowl and mixed and mixed and mixed some more. I dumped it straight on the boat and spread it around with a brush. Mixed up the other half and did the same thing. covered the bottom of an 1836 skiff and about 4 inches up the sides. It was thick as hell on the bottom but thats what I wanted. Worked excellent in every situation. Hit all kind of stuff and never chipped it. It will chip but it easily patched. Im about to order another gallon. I got another boat to do. Its 100 bucks a gallon and ya get it from Fasco Epoxies. (305)821-9441
