Anyone have any tricks for removing old steel flex??? This is gonna take a while!

Belt sander. Orbital sander. Or just rough it up and put Gator Glide over it.

A heavy wire wheel will do the least amount of damage to the metal. Sand paper and grinding wheels will eat the aluminum pretty quick.

That aluminum is badly corroded , Make sure you give it a good vinegar and water bath 30% vinegar no more.
