Post What to expect from 1654 gator trax an 37 EFI Gator Tail
So I'm looking at buying a 2015 1654 gator trax with hunt deck from this guy near me an the motor is a gator tail same year. Never been on or used a gator tail motor an was wondering how much one should cost with 40 hours on it. How are they speed wise/ carrying a load. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well I got it today. Ran it with just me an was in 27-30. Best speed coming at about 3800 RPM. Will put two guys in it tomorrow an see how it does. So far for my first rig I'm on cloud Nine!!!

Your rpm's seem pretty low for the 37 EFI.

Made sure the prop was just below the water an level an let it eat! This is my first rig but from 3800-3900 rpm was my best speeds but yesterday was some 20 mph+ winds an I ran on the calm side but wind somewhat at my back so maybe that affected it? Going to change all the oil an grease today an really go through it an run tonight.

These are surface drives.
Those props are made to be run at the Surface.
Half in the water, half out the water.

You will see better rpms, and speed

I know I have a much different boat in size and weight but I get best speeds anywhere from 4500 to 4700 rpm out of my 37GTR. I know most other people are getting best out of 4400-4500 ish. Prop should be half out of the water when your running and should be throwing a pretty decent rooster tail of watee

That's the reason for low rpm's I bet.
prop is submerged.

Yeah ran boat last night and ran prop half out an was running about 4300-4400 (you guys were right). Could feel motor running right an whole boat seemed faster. All this is a large learning curve since Ive ran outboards my whole life constantly getting stuck an now its pretty much just hammer down.

When you get it trimed right you'll know it. The motor will have a real nice opened up purr and the prop will make a faint humming sound. If you hear it humm to loud your trimmed a bit to high.

How did it run with two guys? I am looking at the same motor on a 1648 gatortail hull with a hunt deck
