 Re: New backyard build
I made the picture quality low so they would upload easy...may be too low but you'll get the idea.
I ran it yesterday for the first time with my wife, baby, dog, 10 gallons of gas, 2 batteries, trolling motor and me in and it felt great. Much more stable than my last boat (1542 with 23 hp hyperdrive). I didn't really get to play with it much cause I didn't have a lot of time and we had the baby on board. But at one point I tacked it up a bit and it was running 25 and some change (deep water). I had to trim it pretty high to get that but it seemed to like running higher on the trim than my last boat. It just started to make a hum noise with the prop on the water. I think if I go play with it some more I can figure it out better and maybe get a little more speed, I was running 4080 rpms when I was touching over 25 mph so if I keep going up with the trim I might could run the rpms a little higher and get some more speed. I was hoping to see a little closer to 30 but if 25 is all I get thats fine.
Do these motors pick up much as they break in or is it fairly negligible? I might gain a little then.

 Re: New backyard build
Should gain a mph or two when the engine gets a little time on it. Wearing the prop in may gain you a little as well.

 Re: New backyard build
That would be nice. I thought about playing with the weight distribution some too but I don't really have much room to move stuff since I pretty specifically placed the batteries and gas in the CC. It appears to draft about 4.5 -5 inches in the rear at the deepest and tapers up from there. I thought that was pretty good for the amount of stuff I have in the boat (2 batteries and 10 gallons of gas).

 Re: New backyard build
Also, fyi, that gator glide is the slickest shit I have ever dealt with....you should have seen me try to load my boat at the ramp. I gotta figure the trick out for that, it won't say on the trailer bunks long enough to get up there and hook it down. But it's gonna be real nice crossing the Beaver dams and such.

 Re: New backyard build
Frog has a solution for that. He's posted the pic a bunch of times of a roller that sticks up an inch or so behind the transom. The boat will float over it while unloading (or take it off) and when you load up the boat rolls over and falls in front of the roller holding it in place so you can hook up the winch.
Check his website, might be something there on it.

Thanks SC mudder!
That roller is a great idea I'm making some trailer mods now so that will be one of them.

Nice boat. Where'd you get the ideas for the inside layout?

 Re: New backyard build
I've been following this site since 2013 and when I see something someone did I save it. So it took me 2 or 3 years to plan the boat and 2 or 3 months to build it. This site is great advertising (or bad if you got problems) , I went with the gatortail because of this site and the gatorglide. As far as that layout I knew it was gonna be my hunting, fishing, bowfishing, and hangout boat for the summer so I tried to make it work for all. The side gun boxes were also put in for strength and they really aren't in the way so it's free space.

 Re: New backyard build
Well I'm glad it was useful. Only thing I would've changed about mine after the fact is the width which yours is 54 so you get that little bit extra room.
I hope you get as much use out of yours that I do mine but be prepared to throw money at it. If a part can break, it probably will.

 Re: New backyard build
Well I appreciate it it's a huge difference compared to my 1542. I fully expect to have to throw some money at it, hell at this point I've thrown a lot of money at it anyways to get it here.

 Re: New backyard build
Ran today with my old man, his German Shepard, and my dog, with a slight breeze at our back we were able to hit 26.7 mph at 4050 rpm in deep water in some smooth sections. If I trimmed any higher from there to gain rpm it lost speed. It took a while to hit that, we pretty consistently ran 23 -24, but it was a bit choppy from the wind and all the boats.

 Re: New backyard build
Ran again today, just me and my dog, we almost hit 29 (28.8 @ ~4200 rpm) but consistently ran 27, pretty much just deep water. So it appears that with added weight comes a relatively significant speed drop. It was also a little calmer today so the water was a little smoother.

Haha it actually happens too look better in those pictures than it did most of the time during the build. But that said I am a little neurotic about clutter, however on the other hand I hate those garages that look like an interior decorator put them together and all the guy does in it is polish his motorcycle.

Mainly Falls lake and Jordan. But I usually am in water all over the state throughout the year. The Durham end of Falls is where the mud motor is pretty much a must. Where do you typically put in at?

If you would like to see some gains in speed with out voiding your warranty. exhaust and send your prop to la prop then you should reach the 30 mph mark you wanted

 Re: New backyard build
I just ordered a spare prop from Calen, he suggested the MudBuddy Big Blade. Maybe when I get that one I can send my 3 blade out to make me a summer time speed prop. (I would assume that the 3 blade will have a better chance of being the faster one based on the threads I have read)
As for the exhaust, I thought it would be nice to get a deeper sound out of it so it doesn't sound like I hanging out next to a lawn mower all day. I didn't really think I would expect much gain though from any of the major exhausts out there on a stock motor. Those Voodoos look cool but the idea of going quieter is appealing too, maybe the BPS Q? All of them are a bit more pricey than I really want but maybe I'll put one on the wish list.
