Thanks TT. Can you order a square chine boat from Gator Trax or maybe a tapperd chine? Or do they only make round chine boats? From what I have heard rounded chine boats suck azz when idling or moving slow, But thats prob what Im gonna go with when I get a new boat.

a round chine boat will turn much better when on plane, but it has less of a load carrying capacity.

I don't know if I have seen a gator trax boat with square chines, perhaps they do make one. Just give them a call and ask.

There are some really good custom boat builders on this site that will make one any way you want it.

Big E on the old site has one. He may not be on the new site.

The last time i ever heard anything from J wales about Big E, I heard that he was wanting to sell that big barge and get a brother bateau. Not sure if he is still feeling that way, but im sure that feeling hasnt changed.

From what I have been reading lately. I think im gonna go witha Pro Drive boat as well as the motor. I really dont need to make sharp turns at speed, but do ned to haul a bunck of crap and a square chine sounds like it will get the job done.

I am a fan of Gatortrax boats...I have owned 3 including 2 wth huntdecks.

On my last huntdeck boat, I sold my Hyperdrive and put on a Prodrive 36. From my experience I would not recommend a PD on a hunt deck Gatortrax. It's do-able, but far from ideal.

I liked the PD so much I sold the Gatortrax and I am now running a Phowler hull.

I know some people love their hunt decks. I've always thought a better option would be to just order a longer boat and have more useable space inside the boat. Anyhow, if you don't know much about boats, its always safe to just buy the boat that was designed to go with the motor.

I know a little about boats, but wanting to know more about mud boats specifically. Most likely wont be able to afford a new boat until I graduate, but just dreaming and getting ideas together now so it will make the purchase easier when I do buy. I have a little 1436 flat jon now with a 18hp evinrude, but thats all a college kid can afford. Thank you for the help and advice. John

Big E still has his 1750 Gatortrax with the huntdeck and a 36 PD. If he could do it over again, I think he would stay with the PD motor but get a different boat. The rounded chines are nice for turning at high speeds...it will turn on a dime. However, the boat seems to ride lower in the water (even on step) than my square chine and it tracks horribly at slow speeds. It's a 25-26 mph max boat with a stock motor, and 21-23 with a load. I don't know if the difference is due to the round chines, or the hunt deck, or the floatation foam in the hunt deck...but it definitely doesn't peform as well in shallow water and carrying a load as my boat (square chine Brother bateau...similar to a PD boat).

The gatortrax boat is very well made, but I have one complaint about the way it is constructed. On the hunt deck, the false transom goes all of the way to the floor. It has caused several hooks from stump impacts directly in front of the false transom. If you compare that to the hunt deck on a gatortail boat (where the huntdeck is open), there is no false transom and nothing to cause hooks.

My opinion is the same as Crews...forget the hunt deck and just get a longer boat with a tall transom.
