i posted about wedge a couple days ago. got good feed back thanks. had a 14x36 with 13 beaver long tail in the past. as i said good 1 man boat, but wouldnt get on plane very well. the talk then and now is longer is better. but what to do when you already have a brand new boat? too late to go longer, or so i thought ! this is what i done. 36" wide x 12" deep ss trim tab. it ran all the way across the bottom of the transom. had maybe 1/4 " drop from the bottom to the trailing edge. now had 15 footer, right ? well this is where it gets a little interesting. put 2 ppl on the boat and it would plane. now this is a boat that almost wouldnt plane with one person. trim tab and now would plane with 2. before had 3 ppl in boat and would fear the boat would sink. 3 ppl after the tab and at rest had about 2" free board, stick the gas to it and had 10" free board. not on plane but not pushing water like a tug. theroy (spl?) because the lenth was added behind the transom and the majority of the boats load it compounded the effict of the trim tab. if i had to guess i would say x3 more like 18 footer. now thats just a little info for everyone. it worked for me. back to the boat at hand. 14x48 rivet w/ 23 minilite. dont think ii want to weld wedges to the bottom of a thin hull. plus the local welders here made that commercial a few years back, you know the one a battery commercial " if it fits it fits " they cant weld crap to tolet paper and make it stick, let alone my lite bottom. was thinkin 2x2 or 3x3 1/8" aluminum algle about 10 inches long on each side of the transom. bolted to the transom at the bottom. adjusted with a hammer as needed. try it flat out the back then bend it down a little at a time until the porpuppos (spl?) is gone. with the speed i have now compaired to the other boat i think it will work. should not cause too much drag and shouldnt hurt me when the boat has a larger load. this would be kinda like pods. but smaller, and no flotation. has anybody used pods? what did you think compaired to the big trim tab i mentioned at the top? do you think it compounded the lenth on the boat? |

when i worked at an aluminum fab shop..when we did trim tabs we used 1"x1/8 angle probably 5" long and weld it on the very outside corner of the boat and adjust it wit a crescent wrench till all hop was gone with 1 person and load |
