I built a pod the entire width of my Tims Marine 14' X 36" alweld,,,,, My question is can I mount it 1" from the bottom of the hull ( To clear the existing drain hole ) This would make the welding so much eaiser My 23 hp GD long tail plus myself just seemed a lil heavy in the rear so I think this podwill help Any info will be appreciated Thx, Eric |

it can be helpful to you if you do it right. Remember, your transom is at an angle, so you want to account for that angle in the pod. You don't want to pod to be pushing down in the water while on plane. It may hurt your performance. I'd just save my pennies and upgrade to a longer hull... |

Yea I considered a longer hull ,,But I forgot to mention that I'm using this narrower boat for bow hunting and accessing tidal areas... that said I want to be able to turn it around in narrow bayou's my prior 14 x 48 was just to wide to get to those secret spots Oh ,, I built the pod wit a 1/2" rise in 16" for a non dragging effect thx for your info |

Extended your drain plug through your pod or drill a hole in your pod for the plug then add two plugs on your pods to try and keep water from being trapped in the pod check out hunt deck pics to get a better idea |

Your pod needs to slope up at an angle from the bottom of your boat I think like 3/4 to an inch from front to back when you put a straight edge on the bottom of the boat there maybe some pics on Google years back I think it was mud buddy that had one single full length pod for use with longtails here's a pic I found of huntdeck drain holes on Google but it's not like an actual pod that slopes up |

I probably wouldn't drill a hole in the pod. And the picture above is all 1 hull. The hunt deck doesn't appear to be added on. |

I had that on an old 1436 longtail rig. ended up welding a notch in the pod where the drain on the hull was. used a piece of tubing to recess a slot in the pod. it worked great and held the extra weight of the longtail |

My pods both have drain plugs they don't get water in them they do flex etc with temperature change I think the plugs basically make it easier when welding |

I know everyone hates pods but I love mine they keep the ass up when poling in the shallows and if I let off the gas or pull the kill switch at speed the ass rises up no water over the transom they also make a great spot to pee from and are a good step for the dog |

The boats I have been in with pods(1 with 2S 115 yamaha 18x72 and 4S 25 merc 14x44) when on plane the pods were out of the water or barely touching at slower speeds. The 14x44 the pods were mounted above and clearing the drain hole. They did what they were supposed to do help level boat at stop and idle. |

Thanks for the info guys,,, I ended up welding it an 1/2" high, some how I miscalculated the transom to pod angle and it has a 1/4" crack at the bottom due to the rise of the pod front to back (1/2") I'm in the process of painting the boat now... I will post pics from start to finish and a performance review when I finish.. thx again, |
