Post New Build 1854 questions/suggestions
Hey guys, this will be my 3rd MM build, and am really looking forward to it. My last 2 boats were 1854 and 1846. My new rig will be 1854, as far as an all around boat, it's great for me. My last one was pushed by a stock 35 GTR. The new one will be a stage 3.5 Delta 37. I'll be running a 24vlt trolling motor, and have some questions about the added weight of rodbox/gunbox. In my first 2, the only dry storage I had was under the front deck. I always thought it would be super nice to have some more. I'm concerned about the added weight of welded in rodbox on one side, and gunbox on other. One will go all the way to the firewall, the other will stop at the front deck, all will be flush, also will have dual pods in the rear for seating/dry storage. Am I crazy or will there be a significant weight difference in adding all the storage? If anyone has experience with similar setups, I'd greatly appreciate some feedback. Thanks in advance!

With that modded engine, I wouldn't worry at all.

Thanks Russ. The 1846 was a SF and crumbled like a tuna can in less than 3 months, but was quick with a stock 37 and toted a load well. The 1854 was a dog, but my favorite of all boats I've ever owned. Speed isn't a HUGE concern, but I'd like to run 30 loaded and not worry about getting on plane with a light bowfishing deck or a small redfish tower. Hoping to see pics/reviews of some rigs that do just that.

One thing to consider with the passenger pod in the back is making sure you have enough clearance for your tiller handle. Also a little off topic but I've seen a few WC custom boats that have this light bar recessed in to the nose and I think its badass. Also a hole through the nose for a spud pole...

Ex, thanks for the reply. Going with a pointed bow, I make 3-4 trips annually to hunt timber. I've learned my lesson on flat front boats. Twice. The recessed bar is pretty sweet looking though. The clearance for the tiller, as in the motor all the way up (tiller down)? Full build is looking somewhat like this: 1854 Extreme, pointed bow, extended front deck, welded in rodbox, welded in gunbox, dual rear pods, hydroturf, 37 efi stage 3.5 delta, 8' pp pro series 2, 24vlt ulterra, 2" receiver, that's all I can think of at the moment. In my last 1854 I had an 8' blade and a 80# MK with 3 batteries. I'm considering 2 deep cycles and a small battery for cranking and auxiliary lights. Either that, or 1 dual purpose and 1 deep cycle with a perko to start on 12v and not 24. Looking at wiring diagrams and amp draw now. The last one ran 28-29 with a light load without the trolling motor on the front with both batteries, 1 in bow, 1 in stern. I'm hoping to hold 30 with a hunting load with the modded motor, mid 30's with a light fishing load.

Run the cranking battery seperate. With that boat and motor, an additional heavy deep cycle battery isn't gonna be the deal breaker with you making your expected speeds.

I have a 18x54 prodigy I have a 37 efi mud buddy w delta 3.5 and 3 blade raptor prop. I have 2 trolling motor batteries and trolling motor I can run 33-34 If I gut the boat for duck season I can only get another 1-2 mph I wouldn't worry. You should be fine.
