New boat help
Hi everyone. I am new here but have been looking around for quite a while.
I am looking at purchasing a new alumacraft 1648 riveted jon. I know it is not the most ideal boat but it will have to do. It will be pushed by a 18 hp home built (by me) long tail that is modeled after a go devil.
Now my question is my local dealer has a 1648 mod v in stock but would have to order a 1648 flat and is saying 6-10 weeks. Is it worth the wait for the flat or will the modv be ok?
I will mostly use it on small lakes fishing, running up rivers that do get shallow. And probably pushing through some veg to find cover for ducks.
Some say the difference will be hard to see others say i may lose as much as 5mph. I would like to run in the upper teens with this boat. Can it be done with a mod v?

Re: New boat help
i ran a 1448 with a 16 hp. it was a flat. i ran 14.5 with one other guy, decoys, guns, and a 45 pound lab. by myself i touched 17. i dont know much about the modv, but i hope this helps in the slightest.

Re: New boat help
Wait on the flat. The modv is ok in certain circumstances, but the conditions you describe in total aren't those circumstances.
