DIY boat blind ideas?
How many of you guys have built your own blinds that break down. I've looked at a couple designs with the Bemini hardware but worry about it breaking in the cold.

Re: DIY boat blind ideas?
Do a search. I used 3/4 electrical conduit and the plans from a scissor blind a guy did on here. Used the Bimini connections 7/8" and had to bore them out a bit (no bid deal with a drill and sanding wheel) I just finished it last week. It works amazing. Only had to drill two connections for the stern section of the blind (Bimini mail connections on the port and stbd side of the boat... I used rivets) and that was the only place I needed to put holes. I used the frond seat mount for the bow section of the blind. Made a T bar and it just slides in the seat hole

Re: DIY boat blind ideas?
If you make a true scissor type blind, no fittings required. I use 1/2 conduit with 3/4 pre-bend 90s, and couple of short 3/4 pieces to make it longer. (could only find 8 ft. 1/2 conduit) Holding it together with SS self tapping screws, youtube it! cheapest way, those Bimini fittings are close to $20 a piece.

Re: DIY boat blind ideas?
Heres mine i made it out of 3/4 conduit based off one i saw on here. I used a piece of solid aluminum rod that fit snug inside the pipe to connect the elbows to my center pieces and bolted it together.

Re: DIY boat blind ideas?
I made something similar to this using conduit with a bender and a few fittings/bolts/nuts from the hardware store. Very simple and easy to put up with one person. One end is secured with a bolt and wingnut locking the two sides together and the other end has a trailer hitch lock pin to hold that side together.

Go with 3/4 rigid conduit. It's stout

Re: DIY boat blind ideas?
I threw this together last season. My plan is to go with raffia grass on some netting with a cordura backing for a wind breaker. It could use some design tweaking, but I'm happy with it for $80 in bimini hardware and $20 in 3/4" EMT conduit.

Re: DIY boat blind ideas?
Not sure what style of gunnel rails you have. I have the accessory type so this is what I did. I made 4 brackets out of bent aluminum plate anchored with carriage bolts that slide into the rail where I mounted my bimini hardware. It's a scissor type blind so I can pull 4 pins and take it off the boat in a few mins. I believe all of my bimini fittings are 1" inner diameter so I made the frame with 1" grey electrical conduit. Had to put some tubing inside the long sides to keep it from sagging in the middle with the weight of the fastgrass. Agree the the stainless bimini hardware is kinda pricey but it sure is convenient to put on and take off.
