I have a 1644 Go Devil boat. The boat is rated for a 30 hp. I have a 23 long tail on the boat now. I want to convert to a surface drive. Does anyone have experience with running a 35 hp. on this boat. I think the performance will be what I am looking for. However, I am kind of scared about getting water over the transom when I stop, because of the added weight of the motor. Any help would be appreciated. I also have my eye on a 27 hp Mud Buddy surface drive, but don't want be disappointed with performance of that hp. |

i have that exact setup. had a 24 longtail on a lowe and sold it to buy a 35 gdsd. then sold the lowe when i found a 1644 go devil hull. its a great small water boat. the weight does make it ride a bit lower than i like in the rear but as said above just dont stop suddenly and it shouldnt be a problem. i added by auto bilge just in case but i dont think it has ever ran. i am thinking about adding spray rails to the sides to help give it a bit more lifton plane. but solo ive had it touch 30mph with a light load. average with 2 guys and heavy hunt load is 24-25. i like it cuz its light and i can run the whole thing up on shore and still push off if need be by myself. i have my gas tank mounted mid ship nad the battery right behind it, about 3-4ft from the transom. motor is a short transom on short transom hull. |

X's 2^^ I ran a big block prodrive on a 15x44. and the prodrive is heavier than GDSD. Did well, just be careful when slowing down, like mentioned above. |

I ended up buying a 37 EFI GatorTail. GatorTail said it weighs 270 pounds. I have not mounted it on the boat yet, but I am kind of intimidated. That is one big motor. I hope my 1644 will hold it. Time will tell. |

And if you’re intimidated by a GTR, wait till you run a PD! |

I have the exact same setup but with a 35 GTR. Set it up a few months ago. Runs great the only problem i have is a bit of a porpoising issue when cruising full speed with just me in the boat. I'm in the process of installing some wedges to help out that issue. boat runs about 23-24 with a good amount of weight in it (2 guys, ice chest, dog, blind materials, etc.). If these wedges work out, i think I'll be able to get up to around 27-28 with just me. |
