red, green, blueish-green affect your night vision less don't know about amber, I use purple. the best is to make sure its not direct to your eyes. Like mount them under your "catwalk". Always the dimmer the better. |

Intensity of ambient light has more effect on your ability to perceive things in the dark than the color. Red has the least perceived effect, but blue actually allows your eyes to adjust to the dark quicker. Ultimately, it's all about perception, and the differences are minimal.
