who all is running a permanent gas tank in their boat? I am planning to go from a 6 gal portable tank to a 16 gallon permanent tank installed under the front deck. What are the pros and cons of goingthis route?

Will your permanent tank be aluminum?
If you think about it, most people don't ever take their gas tank out of their boat.
I don't see any cons of a permanent tank besides if you have a leak in the tank or a fuel pickup issue.

the tank I have is poly, it is out of an old ski type boat.

I have 16 gallon permanent beneath my front deck - poly construction. Remote fuel gauge on my console. Wouldn't change a thing about it. Only con vs one six gallon and two five gallons...if you have to make long trips like I do, you can take out the extra cans once you get where you're going to lighten your load running around. You're still heavy with fuel once you make that 24 mile trip to the camp with the built in.

I got rid of the 6gal EPA balloons a while back and built a 17gal aluminum tank to go under the deck of my GD. Wouldn't have it any other way. Service the fuel filter/water separator yearly and roll on. If it sits like mine has recently, fill it up, and put fuel stabilizer in it. No worries. I seldom fill it all the way up but it's nice to have the fuel on board for my week long camping trips I get to take sometimes up the river.

I take my tank out every time. My permanent tank would always get water in it somehow so I switched to a plastic removable one and keep it in the garage.

I built in a 12 gal tank into the bow of my 1648 Alumacraft. Just extended the deck enough to cover tank and installed a vented filler station. Really helped balance the boat, and at the same time moved rear bench seat 16" forward so I could stand behind it if needed.
