Howdy guys, I have a 2015 GDSD hull 18x60. Just hit 100 hours on the motor and couldn’t be happier. However the foam in the floor has become saturated along with some on port quarter. My main concern is the floor.. I can drill out the rivets, install new foam or remove it completely.. however, I am not opposed to removing ALL the floatation in the hull, it definitely weighs the boat down. I’m located south of Houston in League City area, does anyone recommend any good shops to cut out all the flotation and install a storage compartment instead?

Thanks,

-HW

You can buy new rivets and under floor foam from GD for under 100.00

100 hrs, a 2015 model, and the foam is already waterlogged? That's not supposed to be able to happen. The foam used nowadays should take longer than that to hold water. Don't pull it out without replacing it. Giga will get mad at you.

The above statements are made dripping with sarcasm and don't necessarily reflect the views of me. Go with storage or replace the foam, your call, but know it's gonna happen again if you replace it. The boxes on the sides should have long since been sealed so it doesn't happen, but foam replacement is just apparently part of boat maintenance now and not the responsibility of the manufacturer to seal it so that doesn't happen and cost the consumer time, effort, and money. <_<

Oh wait, some manufacturers actually do......

From everything I've seen, you are going to have to do the removal yourself, then take the boat to have the storage fabbed up how you wish. I could be wrong, but everything I've seen/heard most shops don't want to deal with the headache of removal

I have the same hull, cut every bit of it out and I wish I would have sooner. It opened up a lot of space in the back of the boat as well as lightened it up a good bit. Its pretty easy to do your self if you have a basic understanding of how to use a grinder and sawzall...the floor pops right up when you drill the rivets and the pods are easy to just cut out..the front deck is alittle more difficult, but still easy to do
