looking at a 1844 and wanna pick someones brain about this hull if you have one. I have a 1644 with a 35 gdsd now and its a bit small for larger water but is great in the backwater. does most stuff I want hunting wise but thought the longer hull may help it do better in slightly choppy water just for when I have to cross the river to get to some spots ect. looking at a 2007 model. just looking for reviews. we have a decent bit of marsh bottom marsh and tight sloughs.

I have a 1999 model 1844 (0.100” bottom) with a 35 gdsd. Bought the hull used back in 2015 and the motor new from go devil. It’s done everything I want. No speed demon. 26 empty and 22 with 3 guys and a hunt load. Turns on a dime. I have the short transom model and don’t have any water wash over the transom when I stop. I have the gas tank and a deep cycle battery up under the front deck (previous owner removed foam). Two of the guys I hunt with have the same setup. I also put gator glide on mine. Highly recommend that.

Having owned a GD 1644 and now a GD 1844 - it is night and day a better hull
both empty and loaded - turns as well or better much more stable and a dryer ride
in rough chop...

I currently have an 18/44. As you are already familiar with the round chine, it turns and handles well. But it is a "flat" bottom boat so yes it is still rough in rough water. It does squat in the rear a little more than my 18/60 did. I run a 37 gdsd and ran 29/30 empty and speeds would drop from there with a load. I recently did a stage 2 mod and have only ran it with 3 adults and 2 coolers, etc this past weekend d and ran 32mph in shallow water. Overall I'm very pleased with the rig
