I need to have built, an 18x54 hybrid V, 3/16 bottom and 1/8 deck and floor, with catwalks and open below the front deck, Front hatch, gun box, drivers box, and hunt deck. Attached is a photo of a Sportsman's Fab boat with the transom I want. I've spoken to Timber Creek, Uncle J, Sportsman's Fab, and Hankos, but haven't decided on one yet. I need the bare hull, because I want to do the paint, turf, wiring and rigging/installing the accessories. |

Just my own .02. That hull design is very nice and I would probably do almost exactly the same thing with one big exception. If you hunt with a dog, I would lose the tapered edge on the sides of the hunt deck and the grab handles on the back of it. Do you really plan to have to use those handles? Most people never pull their boat like that and if you're stuck bad enough to need to get out and pull rather than "motor" out of it, chances are you'll be better off pushing rather than pulling. When I hunt with a dog, the dog almost always approaches the hunt deck from the side as the boat is pulled in sideways to hunt. Having the tapered edge there would prevent him from doing so and the handles make great places for toes and feet to get caught. Most people end up using handles on the back of the boat like that to hook their tie-downs to. You can put actual tie-down rings down lower and out of the way if needed. If you don't hunt with a dog, none of these things really matter but personally, I'm trying to see a reason for that tapered edge. |

I'd put the gas tank inside the huntdeck. Use that wasted space and also have a much shorter fuel line run. In my boat (which is similar in size/style to what you're getting but even lighter since I have a 1/8" hull), I have the gas and battery in the stern, no extended deck and it not only never porpoises, it also runs better with all weight midship (NOT up front). |

Thanks for the comments. I'm 240, my Boykin is 35, my son is 170, and I'm rarely in the boat without them. That's a lot of weight midship, and the extra weight from the tank and battery is needed in front because I'm usually in back and the ice chest/decoys, stuff rides beside me in the back. The weight is well balanced with me and the stuff in the back, son and dog midship, and tank/battery up front. The only thing I keep in my dry storage is life jackets and a couple of lights. My dog is trained to come to the back of the boat because the front of the blind (side of the boat) is not open. She swims to the back, delivers the bird, then climbs in. My deck surface will be lower than the one in the pic, but that's the concept. Sitting at draft during hunting, the deck of the rear will probably at water level, or just above. The grab handles don't matter much. I'd much prefer a couple of small pad-eyes welded to the transom with about 1" holes. The pic was just an example of the style deck I want. |

Another question: Is there any performance difference between 17x54 and 18x54? I'd rather go with the 17 length, but if it's a performance killer, I'll stick with 18'. Comments/Opinions on length, please !!! |

48" or narrower, yes, go longer. 54 or wider, not nearly as much of a difference. If a 17ft gives you the room you want and need, then it'll be fine. #CFFITR #TheGhostBoat #whoneedsphysicsihaveamudmotor |

total length. I've decided that 18 is the way to go. Same price and a little more room for "stuff" . Added weight is negligible, so it's worth it. Thanks ...... Waiting on quotes now. |

Nice boat. Only thing I would have done differently is put the trim switch for the Micro-jacker on the grab bar handle. Makes it easier to trim on the fly. Looking down to trim while moving is a recipe for disaster. Don't ask me how I know. Having it where it you put it is not bad. At least you could reach down while sitting and driving. But usually, if I'm approaching skinny water, I'm standing and looking for the deepest part while trimming. |

I really like that setup. Would love to hear any opinions about same boat with 2056 or 2060 dimensions. If you get a chance, could you measure the floor space from the end of the deck to the beginning of the hunt deck and maybe the width between the cat walks? Would run pretty much the same size motor except have Yamaha and Suzuki dealerships near by. |
