Post adding on to a boat?
its hard to find a good performing boat that suits my needs.
finally got one it is just a little short for the prodrive but layout is perfect
now i need to add 2 - 3 foot to it so i can have more run
should i add to the back and make a platform like the hunt deck deal i see on the gatortails?
or should i cut the boat in the middle or close to the front and add my footage there?
would rather do the back but am afraid it wouldnt be able to hold up to the abuse and stumps/grinding of the prodrive.
boat builders can you help out with ideas

when i picked up my boat from GatorTail they had a few in the shop that added 3-6 ft to the back of the boat. If GatorTail is doing it i would recon they back the work.

I have thought about doing the same thing to mine, but would rather get a 60 wide...

Call Kyle he will let you know the ups and downs

One of my skiffs has a 4 foot splice just behind the center. My podnah that I bought it from had a pro drive on it for a year and also had a 40 merc on it for a while. The boat took a lil more abuse than it should have because of the way he ran it but there is no problems at all with the splice. If its done right and braced up good you wont have any problems.Ive seen quite a few boats like this.

I was thinking about adding a hunt deck to the back of mine also. After this season I feel that I need more length, bc with me and the motor weight the back is way to close to the water for comfort.

What do yall think would be a reasonable welders cost to do add a 20" by 44" huntdeck?

It seems like every time I have dealt with welders they have no logical reason behind there estimates. I was also thinking about trying to get the materials myself and prefab them, so that I would only have to pay for the welding and not the time it takes to cut all the stuff.

so prefab is good idea

Ya it seems most welders I have dealt with have been around that per hour, but difference is in what they can accomplish in an hour.

I wonder how long it would take. Guess Ill have to go get some estimates.

Does anyone have any experience with this and know what the most effective bracing would be. I would think right angles from the existing transom to hunt deck, but I dont want my motor to fall off either ha.

Sorry for jacking the thread hopefully this will help you if you decide to do it.

I put a hunt deck on the back of an old monarch 1436. First had to beef up the existing transom to tie it into. Added about 12 inches on . I spent about 8 hours putting it together. It can be done, but is not ideal.
