So I’ve been looking for a boat that will serve my purposes with bow fishing and duck hunting. Ive been looking at a 2006 press 1650 fb, a 2004 war eagle 1648 mod v, and a 2010 Lowe roughneck 1654 fb. My question is what is a good boat to run a 31-35 hp mud buddy with. I live in iowa so wont be going through a lot of mud but more shallow water to get to my bowfishing spot and thick vegetation with duck hunting. Will have 2 people plus me most of the time. Really not looking for something that is 18 foot long. I want stable but i do go through some chop on the river so was thinking a mod v would be better for that. Any help would be great, thank you.

I recently bought my first mud boat and had some similar questions. I found a 2014 Alweld flat bottom March series with a 35 HP Mud Buddy. Usually it will be me and one other guy on this boat for hunting, but occasionally a total of 3-4.

Many thought that the boat was too narrow and short for the load with that 35 on it. So I took it for a test run on a deep lake with light chop (little less that 12 inch chop). We had three guys all 225# or higher (unfortunately I was the higher :o ). We also through in three soaking wet 50 pound sand bags. The boat got on plain with little issue.

Since then I have had nothing but a good time on it.

that 1652 will probably serve you pretty good. Take my advice with a grain off salt though. I am new to this. I just bought mine 3 weeks ago.

Forget about a 16' hull !

The way to go is longer - a MM is heavy and you need the length to balance that heavy motor....

Most here started with that mistake and then spent more money to go 18' !

I did !

Are you talking a V front or an actually mod v hull? Big difference
