Dented bottom on my excel
I have a 2010 1851 excel. While running in open water the boat is pushing water pretty bad in the front. It has two dents on each side of the boat on the bottom under the transom. Has anybody had this problem or know a solution?

Re: Dented bottom on my excel
I know Nick Willey has used bondo to smooth out the bottom of hulls.

Re: Dented bottom on my excel
I think someone used steelflex or something like it as a filler, before. Theres a thread from maybe a year or 2 ago, do some digging. I think he even posted pics.

Re: Dented bottom on my excel
I used fasco epoxy fairing compound number 26 on mine three years ago and then put gator glide over it. It’s been great. Zero cracks or chips. Bumped me up a couple miles per hour and really helped keep my go devil prop in the water. http://fascoepoxies.com/Fasco-26-Epoxy- ... pound.html

Agreed the dents are what your fighting. On boats that are serviceable I reshape and reinforce the bottom of boat. ive never tried the filler idea

Re: Dented bottom on my excel
Nick gave the idea of bondo 17x50 gtrax with huntdeck.Boat has hooked bad at cross brace(gtrax has been building boats to long to continue this)at huntdeck bondoed bottom then gator glide couple weeks before caddo and boat went from 30 to 34.The jury is still out on longevity but I did not knock dents out just filled in.All in all about 3 gallons of filler spread and 2 gallons sanded offso far was worth the time invested.

Re: Dented bottom on my excel
I believe Steelflex makes a filler specifically for that.
It may be the one in the link listed above.
I have heard of using the filler, then putting steelflex over it. Frog may have something comparable or maybe you can put gator glide over the compound from steelflex with equal results.
I would imagine the two steelflex products would work best together, but a call to Frog would certainly be worth your time.
I believe the word was this is a much better solution than bondo as bondo is not designed to take the hits that a boat bottom would.
The aluminum is already stretched so not a lot of value in just beating it back into shape...

Re: Dented bottom on my excel
I used fasco, definitely made it a smoother running rig Was a littl hairy to apply but just be patient and don’t skip on the prep work

Re: Dented bottom on my excel
Thank you all for the info! Excel dealer told me that I needed to get a 4x4 sheet of aluminum welded on the bottom to cover the dents. Its at the shop now getting that taken care of. Hopefully that fixes it.

Re: Dented bottom on my excel
I don't need it now. But I could see where I run mine needing it in the future. What are they charging you to do that?
