Post subject: | War eagle gladiator review |
I recently purchased a new war eagle gladiator 750 with mud buddy 40 hdr last week. I tried to find some reviews but they were slim so I thought I would offer mine. I know the war eagles don’t get much love on MMT. It does exactly what I need it to do and that is to hunt ms river and flooded backwater where vegetation and debris is my main concern, not driving across mud flat. I’m only a few hours into breaking in the motor but the MB 40 has the 3 blade raptor prop and runs strong. I could run 31-32 mph with me and dog and best I bumped was 33. Two guys and two dogs (600 lbs total) it did 28-29. I still need to finish breaking in the motor and find the sweet spots on trim and load but so far very happy. The boat handles well and will turn on a dime. The mod v front handles some ms river chop well and the boat felt safe. The front storage is limited but it did fit 4 life jackets, throwable, and fire extinguisher. Duck bill is nice for flooded timber and it cut through some flooded willow tops like butter. Hope this helps someone out there. |

Appears to be purpose built for outboard / MM combo use.... The duckbill nose design seems built for fishing / dragging the boat.... I assume yours is the 17.4" x 50" with 70" beam shown here... http://wareagleboats.com/boats/25/750-gladiator Does the Mod V go back very far ??? |

What made you choose the 750 over the 848L DV - an 18.6" x 48" with 67" beam ??? Even War Eagle appears to say it runs the shallowest and it has Mod V bow too and 21" sides... Looks to be a full length Mod V hull though... http://wareagleboats.com/boats/10/848ldv "With the extended length the 848LDV planes faster by reducing bow lift, thereby enabling you to operate in shallower water conditions. This model is most often equipped with pods, a mud motor and a mud motor hand rail. Whether you are trying to get through a mud flat, a shallow stream or across a rice field, the 848 will take you closer to the game." |

Yes, that is it. The gladiator has taller sides and I cross the ms river often so I liked that. I liked the pods and 1848 doesn’t have them. I previously owned a 754 war eagle with outboard and had a custom built duck blind and bow fishing platform made for it. The gladiator had close enough measurements that I could use my previous investments. Mod v goes back about halfway but back still doesn’t appear to be truely flat. It was quick to plane and the mod v broke some barge wakes fairly well but I did notice the flatter bottom when I was going from one wake to the next. I’ve experienced a go devil 1660 in exact same conditions and that boat was much much rougher. Other boats may have been better but this one fit my needs and most importantly my budget. |

So 2" taller sides - flatter bottom - rear pods standard & gun box.... Makes Sense.... So does the USCG approved floatation... Seems a shame they don't offer a longer version - as the 750 (17x50) seems more like a 16 foot with bill on front and no forward location for fuel tank and extra battery.... I like fuel in bow to get better rear draft - also I carry 2 x 6 gallon fuel tanks and dual battery as well.... The outboard option is pretty cool too.... Nice rig ! |

Does the bracing running lateral or have they advanced to longitudinal? |
