looking to buy a new mud boat this spring. what are the pros and cons for side console vs center. i see many center consoles very few side models. why is that? boat will be used for hunting and fishing. also maybe running lines in the river. thanks |

Weight distribution and balance is the most important way to get good performance out of any mudboat I have ever ridden in. We don’t have 90-150hp which will just over power any slight imbalance of the hull. I can shift a passenger 6-12in and get 1-2 more mph. I think that is the reason there are almost no side console mud boats. |

Run a side console if you want. I'd love to have one myself. Put your cooler, fuel, battery on the opposite side and you should be just fine. The only issue I see with a side console is constantly getting whacked with limbs and such where I run. At least driving a tiller allows you to be able to get out of the way and a center console is in the middle of the boat. A side of center console for my particular use would have to be fairly short. |
