Post Surface Drive Question
Still pretty new to mud motors. Driven one a few times and I'm definitely hooked. Looking to get into something here pretty soon. One of the questions I have is can a surface drive boat be launched off the trailer onto dry ground. Assuming the motor is turned hard over to the side and trimmed all the way up will it be enough to allow the boat to be dumped off the trailer without hitting the skeg? Has anyone done this to launch in a place where you can't get the trailer to the water or to work on your trailer? Of course gator glide would be used on bottom of boat to make it slide off. Thanks for any feedback.

Thanks Bryce for the reply. That answers my question. I just wanted to make sure it would have the ability to be pushed off the trailer in a few inches of water without the motor hanging up. I don't always want to rely on having a boat ramp.

Gator Glide wont get you back onto the trailer...

But a good pair of 8 foot 4x4s will - with or without GG...

Buy you a cheap 12v winch at Harbor Freight for 50 bucks and tie
onto a tree at the shore line or use a Danforth anchor and winch it
wherever you want then back up onto the trailer - or over the levy - if the
ground is rocks and such use 4 to 6 - 4 foot 2" diameter sections of PVC...

Spray the carpet on your trailer bunks with silicone and even without GG
you can just push that baby off onto the ground then drive out from under
it to launch on dry ground...

Been done many times...

That cheap-o HF winch and a snatch block will do some serious work. As long as you tilt the trailer as the boat comes off or on, you can use a winch (seen it done with a hand winch too) to pull the boat on or off either way depending on you you rig it up. I've launched my boat in situations where it had to be slid off onto dry ground and winched in to the water. Anythings possible with a little redneck ingenuity... beer helps too.

Awesome, thanks guys! Sounds like a winch and some tackle/anchor can get the job done if it ever comes to that. Don't be too hard on SETx. We've all been that guy before that says hey man, I swear the good spot is right over here through these trees, haha. I agree, beer always makes a bad situation better though. Looks like you had fun getting that one unstuck.

Related, I got a two speed winch to crank my boat if I'm on a primitive launch at a steep incline. You just move the winch lever to a smaller, higher-torque crank gear.

Couple rips with the 029 and she was floating again. Standing directly behind the boat, the bottom of the transom was about shoulder high out of the water. There was no duck chase involved. Just a shortcut through the woods at 2am.. At least I think that's what time it was.

Approximately, yes. 208am to be more exact. At 215am the whole lake came alive. LMAO. Gutted stock exhausts suck.
